Adding transcript and then captions

Can anyone of you legends on here please help me, ive tried adding transcript-captions for both video and an audio file and the "CC" button just stays blank it doesn't allow me to select it to creat captions after transcribing. I can see the transcript and edit the words but cant press the CC button because it stays greyed out

You can't create captions on a source clip. You can only add captions to a sequence. However, you can make a subsequence from your clip+captions sequence which you can then use as a source.
