I am using Adobe Premiere Pro 2020. The Error message - The importer reported a generic error. It only happens with some movie files. Can anyone help me?

Hey Malcolm,

This must be frustrating. Is there any specific reason you're using an older version of Premiere Pro? Will it be possible for you to test this in a more recent version of Premiere Pro? Alternatively, you can also try transcoding your .mov files using ShutterEncoder and check if that helps.

Thanks,

Ishan

Greetings Ishan,

Many thanks for your reply and thoughts. I’m using the ‘older’ version of Adobe Premiere because my desktop computer cannot handle the newer versions. I have been able to work with this ‘older’ version without a problem until now. I will try your suggestion to see if this gets around the problem, if not I might start the project again with a new file and keep my fingers crossed.

Regards,

Hi Ishan,

Many thanks for your reply and suggestions. All files are on my desktop hard drive. How do I use the Apple Prores or GoPro Cineform option? I searched the GoPro Cineform option but not sure what I need to do. I will attach two message images to give you an idea of what I am experiencing.

Hi Ishan,

As I was unable to work out how to use Apple Prores or GoPro Cineform options, I have decided to by a replacement PC that will handle the latest version of Adobe Premiere. I'm hoping that the file I am trying to work with will be ok in the latest version. Fingers crossed.

Regards,

Malcolm
