Assigning Audio Output Channels.

hi there,

i'm basically editing materials for local tv station. i was an FCP7 user but now turned to Premiere Pro.

briefly, for the final output (the HOUSEMASTER, what they called it) the audio engineer will give me 2 audio files, one is a STEREO & the other one is a DOLBY E for me to output it to 8 track HOUSEMASTER.

to explain:

track 1&2, 5&6 will be the stereo file

track 3&4, 7&8 will be the dolby e file.

previously with FCP7, i can just assign the track by right-click the cursor on the selected track and assign it where ever i want it to be.

but with premiere i'm totally lost (obviously i'm still new to it)

is there any chances that can do it in premiere? my current workflow right now is i had to go back to my FCP7 to do the final output.

Maybe easier to do by creating a sequence preset. PrPro doesn't allow certain audio things to be done after the sequence is going.

In the Project Panel, New Sequence item, then select a preset for the type of video media you're typically using.

Then in that dialog, go to the Tracks tab, and add audio tracks as needed for your needs. Set the Master to Multichannel. Also ... make sure the Number Of Channels box at the top is the same as the total number of channels you have. That opens up the Output assignment list, so you can post the outputs per channel as you need. Name this and save as a preset.

If you have a sequence already cut you want to change to this, the easiest thing is maybe to set up a pancake-editing workspace with two sequences one above the other ... your already cut sequence above, the new unused sequence below. Select all for the already cut sequence, then drag/drop onto that new sequence. Keep the sequence settings.

You can then right-click on the sequence icon for your new sequence, and get this lovely dialog to customize assignments.

for some reason @R Neil Haugen it won't let me like your post here - but every time I forget how to do this, I'm brought back to this same forum post. 

 

for my posterity for later, adding some info about what I'm trying to do. 

I want to my sequence to render discrete audio channels so that I can independently route and control them in playback software. 

The key is setting your sequence to multichannel audio BEFORE you start putting things in a sequence. "Number of Audio Channels" will be greyed out until you select multi channel audio.
