I downloaded the most recent version of Premiere from the Cloud.
It's much more like the tutorial for Audio Ducking, except that there is no button to click for "Show Keynotes" and the Audio Ducking does not work. How do I get it to work, and how do I get the Keynotes to show?

Audio Ducking is when you set the sound to fade back when there's dialogue - in previous versions you used the Audio Keyframes you got from the pen tool. Now they've changed it. The program is Premiere. When you watch the tutorials for Premiere audio mixing, that's where they talk about it.

...and your "keynotes" are usually called "keyframes" ^^

Hello - they transferred my comment from a different thread, which is why the info. is not included. I'm using Premiere Pro v. 13.1. I opened a new file, did not import a file from a different program. I'm trying to learn audio mixing, so I watched the entire series of audio tutorials at https://helpx.adobe.com/support.html#/all_products
My teacher (the man who has done the show or 37 years) is using an older version of Premiere. On his version, you can fade the music out using the pen tool to create keyframes, which lower the sound.
The program no longer works that way. They want you to use "Audio Ducking," which you set up in the Essential Sound Panel.
according to the tutorial, there's a "Generate Keyframes" button in the Essential Sound Panel. This can be seen three minutes into the four minute tutorial.
The version I am using does not offer "Generage Keyframes" and does not work.
I set the dialogue track as "dialogue" and the music track as "music," then I click "Ducking" and set the Sensitivity, Duck Amount, and Fades controls - then it doesn't work. The music remains just as loud when the dialogue comes on.
How does it work?

I opened a new file and the ducking works, but still no keyframes, so I can''t make it fade. It just goes full volume, then cuts out to the lower volume when the dialogue comes up. Is there still a way to use Keyframes for fading out the audio?

sorry I can't help more.. I only have old CS6 version ( last boxed version) and use Resolve mostly now.
I don't like the auto ducking thing but I'm old and new stuff makes me confused.
Like, if I had a drum beat that's really loud for a split second ( below music ) and other tracks of SFX .. I kinda like the total control over levels and keyframes .. and would hate going through this ducking stuff to get keyframes.
I didn't watch the whole 6 minute video but doubt it tells you how to just manually use keyframes like before. Maybe some nice person who uses your version will tell you.

10 seconds into this 1 minute clip is a 'drum beat' in background.. below the music track... also the jet engine sounds and other planes are below the music ... and everything has to be handled kinda exactly.. in my opinion with keyframes where you can both see the levels of tracks and make adjustments until you get it right … but I'm old and pretty stupid.

thank you for marking this thread as 'assumed answered'. Could you just tell everyone what you found to do the manual keyframes so that other people who see this thread about " ducking" can solve their problems with it ?? Thanks !

I got the music volume to go down with Audio Ducking, however, I have not yet found how to get the audio keyframes. Therefore, it just cuts out, doesn't fade gradually. Still working on it.

Hello - I got the Audio Docking to work after all your good advice. However, my version does not have the button they refer to in the videos

This screen shot from one of the videos shows the button called "Generate Keyframes" - but this is not present in my version of Premiere (13.1.3) The next screen shot is from my Premiere program - no "Generate Keyframes" button. How do I get that to show up? I need to do the fade-outs with Keyframes.

This is from the video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-_0hxIkOHY&feature=youtu.be
The official video at Adobe also shows a button called "Generate Keyframes" - why has this button been removed in the 13.1.3 or is there a secret to getting it to show up?

This keeps marking my posts "correct answer," but I am asking a question, not providing an answer. Do I need to open a new thread?

thanks for posting screenshots. I don't have your version of program so can't help by testing it.
I like those little icons on the top that imply " voice" and " music " ( the little cartoon icons ). This is a really big advancement IMO. What happens if you click on the little music note ? Do you then see " make keyframes" ???
If worse comes to worse, and you have the time, go to adobe support and start a 'chat' session and try to get someone from adobe to help you. Eventually they will keep moving you up a " tier " to finally get someone to try and get control over your computer and use 'remote' tool to see what you have going on, and maybe fix it for you.
Get a sixpack and snacks and charge up your phone with external DC supply … because it will likely take about a zillion hours in chat and on phone to fix stuff … maybe.
Otherwise, maybe there is someone around here who has a clue what you are using ( your version ) and will try to help you.
