Audio Sounds Fine in Media Player but Crackles in Premiere Pro 2025

Hi,

I’m experiencing a strange issue where my audio sounds perfectly fine when played through a media player, but as soon as I import it into Premiere Pro 2025, it develops crackling and static noises.

Issue Details:

  • The original audio file plays flawlessly in media players.
  • Once imported into Premiere Pro, the audio starts to click and crackle, even without any effects applied.
  • The issue persists after rendering and exporting—the exported file also contains the crackling.
  • My audio is recorded at 48kHz, and my sequence settings match this.
  • I’ve tried setting my default input in Audio Hardware to "No Input" and increasing the buffer size, but it didn’t help.
  • I am not using Variable Frame Rate (VFR) audio.

I’ve used the same setup multiple times before without any issues, so I’m not sure what’s causing this. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi @Harsh_Panjwani6962,

Thanks for the message. Welcome to the forum. What kind of camera shot this file? Do you know the audio codec? You can use Media Info in Tree view to discover that. I hope we can help you.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for the response! Here are the details of the audio file:

  • Recorded with: OBS Studio
  • Audio Codec: AAC
  • Sample Rate: 48kHz

The issue happens even if I convert the audio to WAV (48kHz, 16-bit) before importing into Premiere. The original file plays perfectly fine in media players, but inside Premiere Pro, it starts crackling and clicking, even without any effects applied. The exported file also contains the crackling.

Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this? I’ve tried adjusting the audio hardware settings (No Input, increasing buffer size), but nothing seems to help.

Thanks!

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

Hi @Harsh_Panjwani6962,

Thanks for the response. Has this ever happened in the past? Does this happen with any other source file coming from, say, a camera or a mobile device? If not, I would explore troubleshooting from the source side. Something may be amiss with the way the file has been captured. Have you checked out the bit depth, for example? That may be an issue.

I'm not sure what else to offer on the Premiere Pro side except for a Software Encoding export in Encoding Settings > Performance. Have you tried that yet?

If you continue to face issues, consider using a dedicated hardware device to capture video streams. Many pros that stream for a living, use such devices. I hope we can help get you back on track with a solution.

Thanks,
Kevin
