Audio Track Mixer causing poor playback

I am using the latest version of Premiere on two different machines in two locations 55 miles apart.

One machine is running Windoes 11 Pro and the other, Windows 10 Pro that I remote into at work.

In both places, if I have the Audio Track Mixer visible, the playback "stutters". The playhead jumps, timcode display is not smooth, video stutters, but audio playback is fine. Keeping the Track Mixer open but switching to the Audio Clip Mixer, Source, Effects Control Tab, playback is smooth.

The material I work with is a simple 2 channel XDCAM 422 1920x1080 file that are :30 in length.

At home, I tried to playback an Apple ProRes 1920x1080 with 16 channels of audio. All plays nice and smooth until I display the Audio Track Mixer. Playback stutters, but after a few seconds, the audio goes mute! Switch to the Audio Clip Mixer or anything else and playback is fine, even while the playhead is moving.

Hi, Ian.

Using the updated versions of 2024 and 2025, the issue is not present.

The company I work for has me using HP Z-Central to remote in.

It's not the internet connection or the remote software. I know this because myself and others have experienced this issue sitting at our machines.

At this point, I'm not sure how much support 2023.1 and up will get. 2023.0 works just fine. It's especially noticeable when you have the "Loudness Radar" on PC open with the Audio Track Mixer. The Loudness Radar is frozen during playback and doesn't update until playback is stopped.

I only keep 2023 on my system as that is what the company is currently using. This will change next year. I've moved on to 2024 and now 2025.

If you're interested, I could probably do a screen record of the behavior if you like? Again, I personally am willing to let this go as I also found that by bringing up the Audio Clip Mixer, playback is better.

Thank you fro wanting to help. It's just that I feel it's a moot point as of now.

Hi @KeulerB ,

We are glad to have you here in the Premiere Pro forums! Thanks for submitting your bug report. I see that this has been an issue for you for a few years now. Have things improved by using the latest updated version of the App for you? Also I am curious what is the software you are using to remote into the system you are having audio playback issue on? Have you been able to rule out the remote software as being part of the slow down or choppy playback?  I hope we can help you soon. Sorry for the frustration!

Thanks,

Ian

Hi, Rotimi.

All I can suggest is either staying with 2023.0 or moving up to either 2024 or the latest version: 2025.1.

Good luck.

Hello,

Did you find a solution to this issue? I'm still having this issue and I'm thinking of not using Adobe anymore. I need the audio panel / effect panel up for me to do my job... but these are not working.... I'm not planning to renew to my plan in Feb is this issue persist. TRhe only one that works is Adobe 2023... but we are paying for the newer version. I have not enjoyed this product since I have it.

Thx

Rotimi

Thxnk you,

Hi, TotallyToby.

Thank you for the unfortunate feedback. I'm sorry to hear that this bug has "bitten" you as well. I'm using 2024 at home without issue. My employer is still using 2023.5 and the issue exists to this day. They are always the last to upgrade. I probably won't have 2024 at least until 2025 comes out. They are considering a "cloud based" editing solution. Hopefully that will get us up to date.

My point is, I don't believe that 2023 will see any more updates and it's probably best to move to either 2024 or downgrade to 2023.0. Just be aware that 2024 removes the ability to capture from a tape or live source. Only file ingest. I don't know if that matters to you.

Thanks again and best of luck.

I've been having this issue for years and it drives me absolutely insane.

Every single version after V23.3.0 for me has this issue, thus I'm forced to use an old an outdated build and miss all the new features for the software I pay for. It sucks.

Happens when the audio track mixer is docked AND undocked, but as soon as it's closed the timeline and playhead is silky smooth and acts as you would expect.

Hi, Rotimi.

Sorry to hear you're having the same issue. Glad you discovered that V23.0 works.

If you want to stay with V23.0, have you tried downgrading the other Adobe apps as well? I'm thinking Premiere 23.0 doesn't communicate very well with the higher versions of the other apps.

The other thing you can try is to upgrade to 2024. That seems to be working fine.

Thank you for the reply.

Hello KeulerB,

I downgraded to 23.0. It works fine even with the audio track mixer open. Don't waste you time trying any other version on 23. The only one that works is 23.0 version.

also this also come with another problem, since I'm running PPv23, other apps like Audition and after effects are not working fine. It's just a complete headache.

Hi, Rotimi and Cora.

Thanks for the feedback and I'm glad I'm not the only one.

Unfortunately, there probably aren't enough of us to start a movement by Adobe to look into this.

Looks like we're stuck with this for a while.

I appreciate all the efforts to troubleshoot this.

Oh whao... I'm having EXACTLY the same problem you are having. EXACTLY the same. I've done everything to troubleshoot this issue. I've also reformatted my laptop. Tried it on a different laptop. Still the same issue. ONLY when I lunch the Audio Track Mixer. Just exactly the same issue you are having. I've spent over 6 hours with Adobe senior engineers. They tried everything... the issue remains. Today, I started looking into a different video editing software. I need the Audio Track Mixer to work fine for me to do what I do right... but it's not working.
