auto save is constant, and constantly fails

So my auto save is set for every 5 minutes, but it attempts to auto save every thiry to sixty seconds - basically, any time there's a spare moment when media isn't playing.

The problem is, it seems like it never completes the process. The program freezes (as if it's crashed), then the autosave box appears, the progress bar zooms through to 94%, it hangs for another 10 seconds, then disappears. The whole thing takes about 15 seconds - which is a big chunk of my time when it occurs every minute. I've tried setting a greater interval between auto saves, but it makes no difference. It's like as though the process never completed (I've never seen it go all the way to 100%), so it's trying again... and again... and again.

This issue has been going on for well over a year, I've kinda just ignored it, but it's beyond the point of ignoring now. My project is so big the auto save attempts are taking too long. So against my better judgement I've turned auto save off.

Has anybody else experienced this? Or have any suggestions?

It sounds like you need to turn your single project into a Production.

Productions in Premiere Pro help manage complex projects by breaking them into smaller parts. This improves performance and reduces issues like constant auto-save failures.
