Question

avi file wont permit editing

I imported an avi file which was converted to the native file format.  I can open and play the file but it will not permit me to edit.  I need some sharpening and color balancing.  I should state that this .avi format was created about 30 years ago.

Thanks

Denny

Following on whatJohn mentioned, your AVI may use a codec (compression) that your computer does not ahev and so can't open.

When you say it can open, what do you mean - is this opening outside of Premiere?

And when you say you can't edit, what are you not able to do?

Providing more details to what you have done, problems you've faced, including any errors that appear, will help people in advising what can be done to solve the issue.

AVI is a wrapper, what is inside YOUR wrapper - Exactly what is INSIDE the video you are editing?
Report back with the codec details of your file, use the program below
Free program to get file information for PC/Mac http://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo/Download
- when you analyze your file in MediaInfo and post a screen shot in the forum, do so in TREE view

Also, H.264 will not work inside an AVI wrapper https://community.adobe.com/t5/Premiere-Pro/Can-t-get-PPro-to-accept-video-file/td-p/3450861
