Blackmagic Ultrastudio not available in Adobe Apps

Running a new Dell Precision 7760 with Thunderbolt 4 and A4000 GPU. Blackmagic Ultrastudio Monitor 3G works great in Resolve with no issues, no matter the frame rate of the timeline, but it's not even showing up as an available device in the Playback preferences tab of Premiere or After Effects. Secondary monitor connected via display port shows up, but no Ultrastudio. I've seen people having issues with output on Mac and related to framerate but in this case the device just isn't even showing up as available. Any thoughts?

gotta say, I've always had issues with making blackmagic 'interfaces" work, but always eventually got them up and running.  Had this happen on the intensity pro card in my 2009 macpro, the intensity pro usb3 shuttle on a variety of macs and the ultrastudio monitor 3G on a brand new 2020 macbookpro 13" m1.     Sometimes it took a couple of restarts to get everything up and running...

On the MixingLight internal Slack, and of course that's a pro colorist group mostly using Resolve ... a very common "Help!" request is getting their various BM devices running after any change to the computer OS, or to Resolve.

And they tend to have a lot of BM devices between their computers and monitors and sound systems.

Neil, I know you had problems with your Atem, but gotta say I was very impressed with it.  Just connected it and it worked as advertised...  Can't remember if I had to load any drivers or not...

As there are drivers involved, that's always a question. I'd go one at a time.

And ... brand new computer ... is it Win11 by any chance? That could be partly at fault. I'm not sure Premiere fully supports Win11.

Sounds like it's time to just switch to Resolve full time! 🙂 A LOT less
expensive and I don't have as many issues with not ready for primetime
releases.

I kept it on Win 10 exactly for the support reason. I'll stay on 10 as long
as I need to.

Thanks. I'll try a couple versions back of Desktop Video first when I have
a day I don't need the computer to work.

These are all tools ... just fancy hammers. Use whatever works for you and your clients. I work in Pr & Resolve daily. I teach color to Resolve-based colorists for when they need to use Pr.

The recent major Resolve release ... 17.4 ... had the same types of issues for users as the Pr2022 release. Most users were working without issues. Some users had to use annoying workarounds for changes in the app or bugs, but were able to work.

And others couldn't work in it at freaking all. A noted colorist posted on their forums that it was plain busted in his suite, unusable. Some days later they pushed out a patch, which he posted was more busted than what it supposedly fixed. They've finally got it so that most users can be working fine.

I think the issue is both Pr & Resolve are trying to do Swiss-Army knife sort of working ... all sorts of workflows, all sorts of tasks, all sorts of media, all sorts of hardware. And along the way, you are going to get glitches in the system.

I just upgraded to Resolve 17.4.2.9 myself, as ... unlike the Adobe apps, you can only have one version installed at a time. I waited until all the others seemed to say it's ok before changing. Going back is a royal tushie pain to me.

Whereas, with say Pr, something like going from 2021 to 2022, you can install 2022 alongside. Create new projects, see if it works for what you need. When it does fine, create new projects for your old ones, and use the MediaBrowser panel to import the previous projects.

That's the most stable way to migrate a project forward, besides keeping the old project file still usable in the old version if there's any problems. And this is easier than Resolve for such things.

Yea, the software is cheaper as their profit model ain't sellling software. It's providing low-cost software to get you to buy their hardware. Which is fine as far as it goes. But it much of it doesn't go very far, because their keyboards and control surfaces only ever work with Resolve.

My Tangent Elements panel is an awesome Swiss-Army knife in Pr, I can do everything from audio mixing to graphics to color with that Elements. I can remap everything. To everything.

In Resolve ... it's usable mostly, but mapping is totally locked down by the BM engineers. At any one time half the controls are 'black' and unused. Because they'd rather I use their panel, which ... yea, only works with Resolve. And is spendy.

I don't have room for multiple panels. Or patience for swapping them out either.

Their UI is also totally locked down. A good friend loves it, and he hate's Pr's UI. We're opposites that way. I'm no fan of Resolve's UI in any way shape or form. It's functional, yea, but I never like working in it.

And I've got enough BM kit I've bought over the last few years I've got a drawer with several Resolve licenses in it. Love my BMPCC4K.

Edit: my Atem Mini Pro had a one year warranty. Partially died just as 13 months ended, it's no longer reliable. Which basically meant buying a new one. From their forums, that ain't ... unusual. Sigh.

Have you tried different versions of the Desktop app from BlackMagic?

I have not - brand new computer and brand new install, so went with latest
available. Any thoughts on how far back I'd need to go? Or do I need to
downgrade Creative Cloud?
