Blurry Legacy Titles (CC 2019)

Hi, I am having huge trouble trying to find a way to use titles properly in Adobe Premiere Pro.

I am fairly new to the software and am using Legacy Titles to write simple text (someones name) to then put over video footage. However, everytime I add the title to the timeline above the video clip and then watch it in full screen, the text is blurred and is not sharp like I would like it to be. I have looked online for help and loads of other forums and online videos haven't been able to help me.

Would anyone please be able to help me fix this problem as it is very frustrating.

Thanks in advance

Woe to Adobe for intentionally neglecting Legacy Title! Legacy Title has great tools that the stripped down Essential Graphics lacks. I've been a Premiere user since 1994! Now the Legacy Title window is all screwed up when it opens, so your menus are random size each time it opens.

Any shape you've created in the Titler, that you have showing in the Project panel, is easily added to your EGP work. Simply drag the shape from the Project panel into the Layers section at the top of the EGP.

The same with shapes created in say Illustrator. Simply park them in one of your Libraries, and drag them to the Layers section of the EGP to use them.

Of course, you can also draw shapes in the EGP using the Pen tool.

Oh ok.  I understand that you want to stay using the Legacy Tittle because it is no longer something of wanting to update like this just because it has more to do with something sentimental because we use it for many years and we do not want to let it go, but what is happening to your LT does not make sense to insist on fixing. Now in Premiere Pro you have a beautiful Text tool with which you add it directly by writing on the Program panel and then set from the effects control panel super easy and practical to use.  In addition, as Ann says, we have the Essential Graphics that are wonderful with ready-to-use formats that include even your own animations making life easier. You should seriously consider taking a look at these new tools so you can loosen the Legacy Tittle or at least keep it as one of the three titling options in Pr.

I know that but the legacy title has stuff like the title properties for example that includes things like leading, kerning, tracking, aspect ratio, small caps size, etc. and also a ton of drawing tools like the line for example that I personally can't find in the essential graphics panel.

Tell me where can I find this panel https://prntscr.com/oqkehl or this panel https://prntscr.com/oqkf85 in essential graphics?

The EGP has tracking, leading, kerning, small caps.

For drawing lines and odd shapes try the Pen Tool.

When you create the Legacy Tittle you create it to the same size of the sequence where you insert it, right?  That is, it is not smaller than the sequence and then you give it more scale from the effects panel? are you using the scale property or not?

No.... just look: https://prntscr.com/oqgi3r See the difference? When its opened in the legacy title panel it looks like shit. But then in the timeline it's ok.

The legacy titler has a low resolution preview screen.

Same here. I know how to work with the new Essential graphics panel. It's just that the Legacy title has more options like the legacy title properties. Did anyone find a solution?

What 'properties' were you thinking of Yavors? Tracking, Kerning, Leading... are there on the new Essential Graphics.

The new text tool / essential graphics will be constantly improved with new features added all the time. So, it's best to start making use of the new tools and remove dependencies from tools marked 'legacy' cause at any time it can now be removed as Adobe has given plenty of notice.

You might consider After Effects. Amazing Text capabilities. I do most of my titles from there.

Why would I use a seperate program to do things that the now "Legacy" title does perfectly well?  I completely agree with the original poster. I am now in a situation where the legacy title function is giving blurry text so am now forced to use Essential Graphics. But essential graphics does not allow me to add autoshapes such as lines or triangles, which I use extensively to point to things on my videos.

I still find it a bizarre move that Adobe would phase this vital tool out. Hopefully they reconsider.

    Just a question?

Why use the Legacy Titler? Since you're new, why work with a tool on it's way out.

Use the new Title tool and start from there. Just select the T in to toolbar and click anywhere on your program monitor and type from there.

We veterans like LegacyTitler. It has way more features than Essential graphics... like creating boxes, and lines, and using gradations. And I have legacy clients that I create the same format show annually, going back over ten years. It's an extra hoop to jump through to create in an extra program-- AE, what can easily be done all in one program.

Booh to Premiere for neglecting and allowing dysfunction in Legacy Titler.

As you are new to the software I would skip the legacy title tool and start using the Essential Grafics.

Sooner or later the Legacy titler will be gone.

Are you playing back the timeline at full resolution (check the dropdown menu at the bottom-right corner of the Program window - your options should be 'Full', '1/2', '1/4'.. and so on.

It should also be noted that the full screen playback doesn't necessarily represent the full quality of the video, as it is in effect a preview, not the final output. This, alongside many variables such as the quality of monitor/screen, footage used, graphics card etc etc often mean that you shouldn't worry about how it looks during this stage.

A better test is to export a section of the timeline with the text on, and see how it looks then.

    Hi oliverl13086566,

Are you playing it back at full preview quality? Does your text appear sharp when you pause it?

Yes, I am playing the footage back in both full quality and I have 'High Quality Playback' selected. The text does not appear sharp when paused in full screen either.

To be honest, I like Ann's suggestion to just use the Essential Graphics instead. Might as well start with something that will be around for a while.

But in continuing to troubleshoot the the Legacy Title, do the video settings for the title match the settings for your sequence? Did you by chance apply any fx or make any changes in the Effect Control panel?
