Question

BSOD Memory Management still after Video card upgrade

Purpose built machine for video editing.

Worked fine without issue for some months, and then started crashing. BSOD of Memory Management.

Performed memory tests, reviewed and uninstalled software, tried different driver versions, nothing worked.

Figured it may be the video card since it was the only component of the build that was not new. after install of new card, premier immediately crashed when scrubbing through the footage.

Built this machine in July of 2020, problems started about 6 or 7 months ago

Windows 10

Asus Rog Strix B450 Mobo

AMD Ryzen5 2600X

64GB ram

Original Video card was MSI R7 270 4GB

New Video card is Asus Geforce RTX 3060 12gb OC

Hey Erik,

Sorry about that. Looks very annoying. Can you detail info about your source media - especially when you parked on the clip that made your program crash? Your performance seems fairly unacceptable. That lag as you scrub would certainly drive me insane.

Is this H.264 footage? Is it 10-bit 4:2:2 or 8-bit 4:2:0? Or is this a completely different codec? Are these files derived from video streams? If so, are they of a VFR (variable frame rate)?

Since you have AMD processors, you do not have Intel QuickSync, which can assist H.264 performance. I would consider transcoding all your footage to a common "editing codec" such as ProRes LT for editing with this rig.

Do you have a crash log available? Can you post it? https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-discussions/faq-where-do-i-find-premiere-pro-crash-logs-on-windows-or-mac/td-p/9200778

Hope we can assist.

Thanks,
Kevin

Bummer. And that you could be so confident to boot and run into the problem. There was a yellow warning icon in the bottom right of PP, perhaps check and see what that is about.

Here's the things I would try.

Delete the cache and reset the PP preferences to default. Also, make sure I was running a default workspace, like the 'Editing' workspace, and as long as you haven't saved a change to it, reset it to the default (Saved) configuration.

Make sure you are using the 'Studio' driver for your 3060.

Then I would try with a new project. Add some clips and see how that work, you can try importing in one of your current projects also.

These are just typical steps. Maybe some you haven't tried.

Also, I had whacky problems when I had a head-up display telling me the temps and some other system items from the cpu and gpu. Getting rid of that stop the problems. Let us know where you are with that and we'll try to come up with more ideas.

Here's how I delete my cache:

Delete your cache files as follows. (Close Premiere Pro)
The files are located here, Paste the whole line below into File Explorer:
%UserName%\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common

Simply delete the three folders:
•• Media Cache
•• Media Cache Files
•• Peak Files

Premiere Pro will automatically create the folders and files it needs as you edit. I do this before every upgrade. And/or if things seem to go strange. I also keep a desktop shortcut to this folder for quick access.

Yeah the only thing I havent tried is a new project yet. But all other options have had no change. I was hopeful after resetting preferences to default but was dashed moments later.

So frustrating..

Hmm... there was some problems with Audio Hardware. Try setting the 'Default Input' preference to 'No Input'. It's fixed some strange problems.

I don't see where you've said how to reproduce the problem? You've told us about your hardware, (good), now tell us what you are doing when the problem happens.

Ill do ya one better. Ill demonstrate it.

Its just scrubbing through the timeline and playing the viewo and stuff. Its not any one particular action.

Video is after a machine start up. Jump to 25 seconds to get past the startup stuff.
