'+' button not functioning sometimes

New Here ,
Feb 25, 2021 Feb 25, 2021

I have a problem where the '+' button for maximizing the timeline does not function correctly. The '-' button always works fine. It almost seems random.

My keyboard operates fine.

I am using the latest version of Premiere, but I've had this problem for a year or so on prior versions too.

I have the Japanese language pack installed as well as English but changing language has no effect.

Any help would be appreciated.

Is the timeline selected?

If so,

Try resetting the preferences:

If that doesn't work, try resetting the Workspaces:
Reset a workspace
Reset the current workspace to return to its original, saved layout of panels.
1. Do one of the following:
• Click the Workspace menu icon and select Reset to Saved Layout.
• Choose Window > Workspace > Reset to Saved Layout.
from here:
https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/workspaces.html

If that doesn't work, try Preferences > Audio Hardware and set Input to None.

If that doesn’t work, try updating or rolling back your graphics driver directly from the video card manufacturer’s site. If NVIDIA, do a clean install of the latest Studio Driver (NOT the Game Driver).

If that doesn't work, try creating a new project and import the old one into it.

Sorry for the late reply.

I have tried all of your suggestions, but none have solved the problem.

The version of Premiere is 14.8, but this has happened with many versions back.

PC is windows 10, no third-party I/O hardware.

This still makes no sense to me! If it were me, I would suspect an intermittent, failing keyboard issue. After exhausting all the other options, I'd try a different keyboard.

Please confirm: the problem is intermittent, no pattern that you can determine.

Once it happens, does hitting the plus symbol again result in it working? Or does it continue to not work?

If it doesn't work on a second or third try, or even if it does, as an alternative to the plus key, try one of these: Sequence -> Zoom In. Does that work? (You'll notice there, btw, that it is not actually the plus key anyway; it is the "equal" key!) Or select the Zoom tool (type Z, or click and hold on the Hand tool and pick the Zoom tool).

Finally, it was a few years ago now that I experienced a version of this problem. And then I discovered that it was not any plus key, but only the one on the keyboard and not the keypad!

Stan

He could also try remapping the + functionality to another key and see if the issue is just that key.

I know I'm late, but I often have this problem with other programs as well. Not an English keyboard. Windows user.

Check your Keyboard Shortcuts under Edit. There is an image where the key is on English keyboard. Usually, the "-" and "=" are the Zoom Out and In buttons, and they are next to the Backspace.

Then you have to switch your keyboard settings to English by clicking Left Shift+Alt. Wathever two keys are next to your Backspace on the left, those are the Zoom Out and In buttons!

This fixes any other shortcut problems. In Windows Settings, you can make sure English is in Preferred languages, and on the taskbar it shows what is active.

I hope this helps someone. 🙂
