Question

Can I embed files into Premiere?

Greetings!

I am curious if it is possible to embed files into a premiere project.  The reason I ask is that I am sometimes having issues pulling up old work files to re-edit only to find that the necessary files that were included in the project have moved and now need to be relinked (sometimes taking long periods of time).

I don't want to go too in-depth with explanations but the main reason these files end up moving is because of data storage issues.  If I was able to simply embed all of the working files (video, images, art, etc.) I wouldn't have to worry about it.

Is this possible?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Sincerely,

>In general, I think what we need is more space

Are you REQUIRED to keep files on a server, or may you keep the files that YOU use locally?

Buy as many drives as you need and use a Sata docking station

No, it is not possible to embedd files. But, when you have finished a project you can use the Project Manager in Premiere Pro to collect all files used in the project to a specific location. By using the Project Manager you can easily collect everything to one folder today and five years later open up the project without the need to find old assets. Kind of what you are asking for. 🙂

Hmmm wouldn't you just be able to create a file folder and pick a location yourself without having to use Project Manager to do so?  Does using Project Manager compress the folder so that these files do not take up as much space?

The reason I ask is that I am working on a network.  The I.T. guy only has so much space available for our video content before we must move it or delete it to make space.  However, we also have to come back to videos pretty regularly to make edits if we catch something that needs to be corrected.  So keeping all of these items in the same space for a good length of time would be ideal ya know?

Having a specific location for files and keeping all media related to a particular project together is best practice.

For example in a few places I work we keep (mostly) all media and project files in a single folder.

But using the Project Manager adds options. Like excluding unused media so you can reduce the project size, transcoding and consolidating etc.

Media Manager is a safer option if you *don't* have all your media in one place.
