Can't copy or edit material between sequences in different projects in the same production project

I'm working in a production based project (which I converted over from a traditional single project into a production project, creating new separate projects for each story edit, and the source media).  I've compiled my stories into segment sequences, now I can't copy or edit any material (clips or sequences) from my projects /  segments into other projects (I need to do this as individual clip sequences, not nested clips so that I can continue editing individual sequences).  I can't edit from a sequence in my source monitor into a sequence in my program monitor.  I can't copy & paste from one timeline to another. I've tried "drag & drop" and "copy & paste" to copy sequences between projects within the same production.

I've done multiple system re-boots; I've rebuilt the preferences a few times now. As far as I know, my system should be able to handle this softare set up.  I'm editing 4k material into an HD timeline using prores proxies

I've stuck with v 24.6.3, because I didn't want to risk introducing any new problems by going up to v25.1 (even though I've already edited another project in 25.1 on my system)

Any ideas on why I can't copy material?  Ideally I'd like to edit from one sequence into another, as I've found that Premiere Pro is randomly changing my multicamera clips, so I can't rely on "drag & drop" or "Copy & Paste" to edit between sequences.

Thanks to David Harley Counts advice (in the Adobe Premiere Pro Editors of Facebook group), I've managed to work out a cumbersome work around, that appears to work:

as each segment of my edit has been created in a separate project, and I need to move stories from one segment to another, I've realised that the work around is to import the entire source segment project into the project that contains the timeline for my target sequence; I can now edit part of one sequence into another sequence. from the target project.

This is cumbersome & ugly, but it works (so far…). The downside to this is project bloat - which defeats the whole purpose of using a productions workflow…

Unfortunately I can't delete the extraneous material from the imported segment project, as this will delete clips in the part of the sequence that I do want to use, and I don't have a way to identify media relativ

Hi Abel, you're problem is a bit different to mine (for me, Premiere Pro isn't allowing me to perform an insert or overwrite edit from a sequence in my source monitor to another sequence in my program monitor if they're not from the same project within a productions project).

I'm not sure what is happening with your situation - have you tried the basics like resetting your preferences & deleting your cache (on a Mac, hold down option & shift at start up).

Just as a test (and a possible work around, but not a complete solution), you could try selecing  the clips that you want to copy as a subsequence, load that subsequence into your source monitor, and then perform an edit across into your program sequence.

Also, have you tried doing a drag & drop between the two sequence timelines? Do you know how to do pancake editing? (here's a link to a  youtube video that explains how to do pancake editing if you don't know it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5My2H7zWfM)

Great! Glad I could help you!

Clearing the cache worked!!!.. must have been something in there that screwed up?! Now I can copy/paste several layers again. Thanks man! Saved me hours of copying the clips bit by bit - and minimizing the risk of heartfailure due to overpower frustration from such a simple thing!

Here a screen recording.

I dont have persmission to upload a video, so it's a link to my Vimeo page.

As you can see I "copy" clips in a sequence that has multiple layers and try to paste it into another sequence.

Have done this a million times.

But for some reason, I only get track V1 copied?

Not the other ones. Tried toggling the "Insert and Overwrite on/off", but same result.

Hi @Andrew C. Brinsmead - It sounds like you have the setting "Insert and Overwrite sequences as nests or individual clips" turned on.

Would you be able to post a screen recording of your issue?

The cumbersome work around that I've found is to import the sequence that you want to use as an edit source into the target project that you want to edit the material into; once the sequence has been imported into your project, then you can load it into your source monitor & edit it into a timeline in your program monitor in the usual way.

I have exactly the same problem. I.m just starting up my project, and copy in one sequence, and want to paste in another, but it only allows one track at the time? I've tried swtiching tracks on and off, turning off adjument layers etc. Nothing works? HEELLP!

No, the problem is that I can't perform an insert or overwrite edit from a sequence in one project into a sequence in another project.

I can't use drag & drop or copy & paste, because when I use this method to move groups of clips between sequences, Premiere Pro is randomly swapping camera angles in  my multicamera clips in the sequences - so I can't rely on Premiere Pro to copy & paste.  I need to know that my editing won't be randomly changed by Premiere Pro bugs.

That is just bizarre ... I've been using Productions since it first came out, and never had anything like this. So you drag drop, or copy/paste, and ... nothing happens? Weird.
