Can't edit a text box when I click on it.

Think I spotted this issue by other Premiere Pro users in other posts..

This is a nested sequence. Often when I drill down into the text box to edit it, it's frozen - I can't edit it. Don't get the red keyline around text to edit it.

So when I toggle between the Effects Controls window, and grab that blue marker in the effects window and scrub through its timeline. Then go back to the Program Monitor Window and click on the text, suddenly it works and I get the red keyline around the text to edit it.

Kludgy. But I'll make a note of it for future edits!

you cannot edit a text on a nested sequence, you have to open the sequence

and edit the text layer from inside the sequence, that's according to your

first statement that it is a nested sequence.

now since you said you scrubbed the effect controls timeline, then

hit the program monitor and it worked, this might be fixed if you

try to reset the preferences. what version of premiere pro are you on?

See attached screenshot. Yes, text box is in layers of nested clips. You'll see I've dug into the the textbox graphic itself. I've circled where I need to 'jiggle' that timeline bar, then go back to the project monitor window where the textbox is finally clickable and editable.

I'm using Premiere Pro 2020 v14.3.2. Maybe I'll try updating to v14.9 and see if that fixes it. Will report back.

Double click on the text in the program window?

Use the text tool instead of the selection tool.

Yup, been trying both. Nada.

First time this has happened in my projects. My guess is Premiere is seizing on this particular animation because its full of nested sequences. Maybe the upgrade to v14.9 will get rid of this annoyance.

Try a test in a brand new project. Still showing this problem? Let me know.

This bug has returned again in 2024. Now sure how they continue to not get this right. In order to modify text box or even move things in the program monitor panel like shape layers without Premiere Pro forcing to deselect the moment you stop dragging your item to the desired position, you're forced to restart the program. This is nonsense.

Same here, only way we can edit text is via de "Text" window. Have to restart Premiere everytime this happens...
