Question

Can you change text into captions?

Is it possible to change text into captions? The text was created to look like captions, then I received an XML with the text. Is it possible to create an SRT, or to change this text into captions?

Yes, but the devil is in the details.

I'd try opening in Subtitle Edit and see if it will read it, and then export to srt.

It may be possible, but I don't know how to do it!

See this post and thread regarding converting captions to graphics text. You have an xml that is PR code for graphics text. I think it is Base 64 Hex with hash. I don't know if it can be converted or not.

https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-discussions/faq-workaround-nesting-to-apply-effect-controls-to-caption-track/m-p/12237320#M360965

The caption to grahics text converter discussed there (e.g. Subtitle2xml) starts with srt (i.e. plain, non-hex text), and creates an xml with hex, but without hash.

I would consider using the speech to text to get captions, and comparing the xml to the captions in PR.

Thanks for your help Stan. The text is subtitles, so it's translated.
