Cant view lumetri color effect

I cant figure out how to view a color effect in my main window when editing.  Very new to Premiere so I dont know if its me or the program.

Basically I add a piece of video to my timeline, go to the right side pane and select lumetri color and then creative.  When I select an option from the dropdown list it shows in the small window in that same pane, but my main viewing window does nothing.

What am I missing?

    Update:  So while talking to a friend he asked if I had the global FX muted.  I didnt know what that was and never used it(see my screenshot that shows the FX button isnt there).  After I added the button and turned it off, its working now. 

    Why would that be turned on?  I have reinstalled premiere a million times, reset the workspace etc and it only was fixed because I added that FX button and turned it off.

    That Global Fx button is an incredibly useful and necessary tool to have, on occasion. But also a very frustrating tool if you don't remember ... or know ... about it. It can bite experienced editors too.

     

    Especially as you can invoke it by keyboard shortcut, it comes with one still I think, so you can 'set' it without even knowing about it. 

    Check your keyboard shortcuts dialog, type in "global" and it pops up. You can see if it has a shortcut set, and if so, might want to delete that. It's safer to delete the short if you're not going to be using it.

    After reading your post I thought maybe that was an AHA moment, but looking at the shortcuts the global FX is not assigned to any keys.

    Strange all around.

    Truly, then. It used to come 'assigned' ... and wow, did that lead to some unhappy, frustrated folks ...   😉

    To me it appears you may be adding effects to the original file instead of the timeline itself? usually all added effects have the FX button automatically checked.

     

    Have you tried dragging and dropping the effect to you desire onto the timeline clip? then you should be able to click the effects tab behind your source video window to modify effects settings. ( this may depend on your workspace setup)

    I was trying to add effects to the timeline only.  I either had a bug or something in Premiere but the FX button was never used by me since I first started with it a few months ago.  

     

    I tried a million different things over the past few months and was just about ready to delete Premiere and cancel.  Still weird that the FX button or whatever global function was turned on even with clean installs etc.
