Changing viewer gamma setting doesn't affect view in program monitor

I'm under the impression that changing the viewer gamma setting under the Lumetri Color panel should affect the view in the program monitor. However, whenever I do this in my own projects I see no change (across multiple different projects which use footage from either a Canon camera or an iPhone). At one point in the past I DID see this setting have the intended affect on my view in the program monitor, but not anymore. I've also made sure to have "Display Color Management" checked. Are there are other settings that may be impacting this? Not sure what the issue is as I used to be able to see a difference with different viewer gamma settings.

Thanks!

Hi codypiper,

Welcome to the community! Let us know the Working Color Space you are using for the sequence (Sequence > Sequence Settings > Color Management). In case it's set to Rec.2100 PQ or Rec.2100 HLG, try changing it to Rec.709 & test Viewer Gamma.

Thanks,

Sumeet

Hi Sumeet! I'm working with Rec.709, working on another project now and still experiencing the same issue.

If the Viewer Gamma setting in the Lumetri Color panel isn’t affecting your Program Monitor, despite enabling Display Color Management, check the following:

  1. Project Color Space: Ensure your sequence and footage color space match (e.g., Rec. 709 vs. HDR).
  2. GPU Acceleration: Some gamma adjustments may not reflect properly with certain GPU settings. Try toggling Mercury Playback Engine Software Only as a test.
  3. Monitor ICC Profile: If using an external monitor, system-level color settings might override Premiere’s display.
  4. Restart & Reset Preferences: Try resetting Premiere Pro preferences (Shift + Alt while launching) to rule out a software glitch.

Hi! Tried following all of these steps, with the following results:

  1. The sequence color space is Rec. 709 and my source color space is 12-1-6 when checking via Media File Properties. Is this okay?
  2. I wasn't able to change this setting - it is grayed out with the option "Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (Metal) - Recommended" selected. Is there some reason why I would be unable to change this?
  3. Not using an external monitor. I am working on an M1 MacBook Pro for what it's worth
  4. Tried this and unfortunately this didn't fix the issue either. I also had even tried uninstalling and reinstalling Premiere previously and that also didn't change anything. Probably worth noting I'm running version 25.1.0

Let me know if there's any other information I can provide. I'm especially confused as to why this worked for me before, but isn't working for me anymore.
