Clip Stretching Issue

Hello, I have two full sets of clips in same sequence. Both have their own video an audio source. I am trying to take clips from video source 2 and insert them into video source 1. This requires that I stretch the clip taken from source 2, in order for it to match the space in source 1. But any time I stretch the clip from source 2, it also fills in the previous time before or after the cut based on the which way I stretch it. I only want the clip I cut out of source 2, and then I want to be able to stretch the clip to fill the space in source 1. Has anyone ever had this issue, and if so; what was your solution. I appreciate the help in advance.

I think you want the Rate Stretch tool and not the Selection Tool. Default key for Rate Stretch is 'R'. It will slow the video down while extending rather than just 'reveal' the other footage in the clip.

Notice in the gif you can see the cursor change to the rate stretch tool and then the speed changed to ~73% after the clip has been stretched.

Alternatively, if there is no movement in the clip you have on screen, you can also change it to a still image by adding a Frame Hold.

A couple of pictures might be helpful here. I might just be getting tired, but I had a hard time following what you were going for.

When I stretch the clip from S2 I only want it to display what was between the last 2 markers.

You are not stretching the clip but extending (there is a difference).

Stretching means changing the speed of the clip as in slowing it down.

Extending means increasing the duration.

You dont need to extend just drop it in V1.

The part under the first two markers wont show anyway.

Ok. But if I just drop the clip in from V2 into the space in V1 and I do not extend it, then I will end up with a gap in my video. I am trying to get rid of the gap in V1, while only displaying what was clipped from V2. V1 is the video that I will export in the end.

When it comes to the audios, I will keep A2. But my issue is when extending the video from V2 in V1. I want to make sure that there are no gaps, but only display what has been clipped. So when I extend the clip from V2, I do not want to display the video before the cut. Just the video within the cut, while eliminating the gap in V1.

Hi zachf73445108,

We would need more info to understand the issue properly. As PhillipJoseph suggested, screenshots might help in understanding the workflow. Also, are you using Speed/Duration to stretch the clips? Let us know, we're here to help.

Thanks,

Sumeet
