Hi,
I've only recently started creating closed caption in Premiere, I used to use a third party software.
It was much easier than Premiere, but I no longer have the option of using anything else. So far it has been tedious in comparison to the other software, but workable.
Today though I started a new project and ended up with a caption file where the text appeared to have a period in between every character.
Does anyone know why that might be?
Ex: " T.e.x.t. . w.i.l.l. .a.p.p.e.a.r. . l.i.k.e. t.h.i.s.."
Thanks
Hi stephenw,
Looks like we have a fix lined up for this anomaly in the upcoming version. Sorry for all the trouble.
Thanks,
Kevin

UPDATE - I had a live chat with an Adobe rep and I still don't know why this happened or how to fix it. BUT he suggested that I start a new project and start over and that worked.
Not a satisfying answer but it got me past the problem.
Anyone else looking for an answer, try the 608 standard of captions instead of the 708. That also made the problem go away.

Surely there is an answer out there from Adobe. I don't have the option of "starting a new project", as I've been working on this project for weeks.
Now that I'm adding subtitles, this stupid period situation is happening. I also only have the option to change font size if I use "Open Captions", which I don't want to do, but the default font size is so small that it's barely legible; especially with the stupid..... p.e.r.i.ord.... . p.ro.b.l.e.m.....

I am getting this issue if it is a single word. With open captions, if I just type any character, including space the "." appears. If I type numbers, it won't appear.

Btw, If the number of characters are more than 6, the dot disappears from video, thought is still shown in Caption panel.

Is this anomaly a premiere display issue or does the embedded caption data actually contain the extra characters?
I currently have no way to QC playback the AME output .mxf file with embedded captions before delivery to the client.
Any one with ideas on how to QC .mxf files with embedded CC?
Any news on when "the upcoming version" will be available? Thanks.

Just saw the notes for the October 2017 Premier Pro CC release. While I saw improvements and additions to Closed Captioning capability, I didn't see anything specific to this anomaly. Maybe I missed something?

We actually play-out the final version of the file to a scope and video monitor that can verify 608/708. For QC, we use Telestream's 'Switch', which also allows us to drive a BlackMagic Decklink SDI 4K card, and from there outputs to a scope and video monitor.

I'm currently working on a project and have the same issue and I've tried several ways of troubleshooting to correct the issue. I have had no luck.
Is there a way to remove the periods in-between each letter?

Does anyone anywhere have a workaround for this and other related mcc (708) captions? mcc captions will not import properly since three versions ago, has been a known issue since then, yet still not fixed in 2018. I am having to caption using the first 2017 version and unable to easily take advance of the latest PPro features?. Any suggestions, thoughts? Adobe...???

Just wanted to offer something I just discovered: we observed this issue at my place of employment when running 2017.1.2 on a PC. Before updating the Mac I use at home, I opened Premiere 2017.1.2, created an HD project, and applied a .mcc file with 608 and 708 captions to the timeline and DID NOT have the period between every letter issue.
