Colour Space Changes

Hi,
I recently reinstalled windows and premiere pro (which was a few versions old) and now when I import my footage (shot using HLG2 colour profile) or open previous projects, all the footage is blown out slightly. When I check under modify->interpret the clips say they are using colour space from file "1-18-1". If I change it to assume rec.709 colour space the footage is fixed and looks normal. My problem is I can't understand why premiere is defaulting my footage (and all past projects) to this "1-18-1" colour space suddenly after updating?
Thanks

The color "engine" in Premiere Pro2022 was completly rebuilt. It used to be a total Rec.709/SDR color space, with the added ability to work with "over-range data" to do some quasi-HDR work. And all media on ingest was assumed to be intended for a Rec.709 display unless the user chose to change it.

Now ... it's fully capable or working with Rec.709 or P3 or the modified forms of HLG/PQ in the Rec.2100 color space. And expects the user to say what you want it to do with the media.

Yea, that's a massive change. For the most part, that and the numerous changes they haven't rolled out yet are necessary given the changes to camera, media, and display devices currently going on. It's unsettling to us users as it currently is, of course. And the implementation could be improved.

But ... yes, you now need to tell Premiere to use Rec.709 for those HLG clips. It's actually pretty easy ... you can select a group of clips in a bin, right-click/Modify-Interpret Footage- Override to Rec.709. Takes a few seconds to do all the clips there.

I am pushing for a new color management panel ... one panel to rule them all, please! ... that would allow the user to set defaults for input of specific media, timelines, and monitor color space/gamuts. And that would also be the place to go for overriding any default.

Color Management Panel

And here's a couple FAQs I wrote for this forum, explaining the changes, how to work with them in a practical way, and the problems still remaining.

Ok so I have found out this latest update has stopped premire automatically changing HLG footage to rec.709 and I have to manually change all clips I import.... surely there should be a setting to keep the automatic conversion if you wish???
