Compressed Audio from miniDV Tape Capture

New Here ,
Sep 04, 2017 Sep 04, 2017

Hello,

I'm currently trying to import some old video tapes off of my old Sony camcorder. I have the DV out port of the camera connected to the thunderbolt port on my MacBook (via a firewire to thunderbolt adapter), and am using the Capture feature in Premiere Pro. When capturing short clips, everything works fine. But when I try to import a whole tape, the audio changes from 32000 hz 16 bit mono to 48384 hz compressed stereo. And the compressed audio is too fast, playing high pitched and out of sync with the video. Any advice?

Thank you,

Alec Burns

There have been issues going through adapters.  I recommend connecting only to a Firewire port built into the machine.

I don't use Premiere Pro for capture.

Try these:

For DV:

WinDV   WinDV

For HDV:

HDVSplit   HDVSplit 0.77 beta

That appears to only be available for Windows -- do you know of any Mac software?

Unfortunately, my MacBook Pro only has a thunderbolt port.

Then you will need to use a different computer.

Hi AlecB,

As suggested by Jim Simon, it is recommended to use machine built-in Firewire port.

Thanks,

Vidya.

You may have missed my previous reply -- my MacBook doesn't have a firewire port. They haven't put firewire ports on MacBooks in quite awhile, unfortunately.

No I dont think he missed that.

You need to use an (other) machine that has firewire built in.
