Converting MTS to MP4 and relinking to MP4 within existing project

Hi People,

Been experiencing major performance issues with MTS format source files in some PPro projects. Converted all the MTS files to MP4 and imported them into the project. I then attempted to update the link in each sequence from the MTS to the MP4 file but found that the edits within sequence changed. Then I thought to relink the MTS source files to the related MP4 file. Same outcome. Is this normal or am I missing a step?

TIA

Andrew

gotta say I've never had a problem with prores files in windows WITHIN Premiere...   But there are some non-mpeg windows compliant video files that should work without issue.

After much fiddling, I found that no matter what file format I used, replacing an edit source changed the edit. So I'm sticking with not changing the original format to be safe. Thanks for your thoughts and advice.

first, much smarter to convert to a mezzanine format like prores rather than an mpeg format like mp4.  But that may not be the source of your issue.  Make sure your converted file matches the mts file for frame rate and starting timecode.

Thanks Michael,

ProRes appears to be Apple focussed and produce a MOV file which in the past PPro on Windows (I'm on Windows 10) has refused to import. The converted file matches the framerate and starting timecode. I should have mentioned I used Adobe Media Encoder to do the conversion.
