copy/paste attributes of animated text

I am bit confused with text in Premiere. It seems like there are 3 ways to adjust position, scale, rotation, etc, 2 of which are located in the Effect Controls (Graphics and Video) pannel and the other in the Essential Graphics pannel.

First, I would like to understand what is the difference (if any) to adjust the settings of the text in Graphics, Video or Essential Graphics? But mainly, what is the difference between Video and Graphics within Effect Controls?

Second, is it possible to keyframe the text from Essential Graphics? Or does it have to be done in Effect Controls?

Third, I often work on one text, position, scale, keyframe, anchor point, etc... and then I want to apply the settings to a different text layer, so I paste attributes. But each time, it bring the text in a complete different position that the one I had set on the original text layer. Why is that?

Last, I am not quite understanding the (in)consistency of the placement of the anchoir point. Sometimes it seems like it is at the top left corner. Some other times, I just can't see it all after selecting "anchor point" in the Effect Controls panel. So I'm very confused, yet the anchor point seem to determinate where the motion is originating when animating the text.

Is there a way to make the anchor point placement in the center of the text by default?

Thank you for responding and bringing me some clarity.

Hi Naima,

Hope I can help you with some of your questions. Sorry for any frustration, first of all.

All clips have what is referred to as "intrinsic effects" (where a clip's Motion, Opacity, and Time Remapping are concerned). As for text generated by the text tool and the Essential Graphics panel, you should leave these controls be. Vector Motion controls are great for intrinsic style effects but with the ability to scale beyond 100 without degradation. If you need to control an entire page of graphics in this manner, then these are tools you use. If you are looking to adjust individual pieces of text or graphics, use the options under Text.

I hope I have answered that just now. However, I think the important thing is to stay clear of the tools under "Video" and focus on the ones under "Graphics." Use Vector Motion to control whole pages of text, use text controls for individual elements of that text page.

Second, is it possible to keyframe the text from Essential Graphics? Or does it have to be done in Effect Controls?

Yes. You can. Put the playhead where you want the animation to start (or end) and click the control in the panel. It turns blue. Move the playhead. Change the parameter; then, a second keyframe is set. Check in the Effect Controls panel to ensure that you have set your keyframes correctly. I don't use that feature much and use the Effect Controls panel since I often want to adjust my keyframes' velocity easily. Those things still must be done by working directly in the Effect Controls panel. I always have that panel open as I work with text and graphics effects in tandem with the Essential Graphics panel.

I don't think paste attributes work in the Essential Graphics panel. It does work with the entire page for Vector Controls, though. You can make a text style, but you'd need to create a motion graphics template for some things. By default? No, sorry. You can upvote this feature request: https://adobe-video.uservoice.com/forums/911233-premiere-pro/suggestions/37472251-ability-to-center-anchor-points-in-titles-and-laye

Here is the workaround for centering the anchor point in a text layer from QE James Strawn:

For centering the anchor point, there is a workaround using snapping.

1. With the Program Mon in focus, check on View > Snap-in Program Monitor
2. Select a shape, clip or text layer... or a whole Graphic
3. Click and drag on the Anchor Point and move it toward the center of your selection.. it will snap to the center axes.

For 'Center in View', with any layer selected, go to the EGP and look right under where it says Align and Transform. There are buttons for Vertical Center and Horizontal Center there.

I hope that this advice helps.

Thanks,
Kevin
