Create DVD and BD from the same project

New Here ,
Feb 09, 2017 Feb 09, 2017

It seems that Encore is able to take a project and create different outputs. I know this is pending transcodes but I was was wondering how feasible this is in a real world situation. Has anyone successfully been able to master a BD (Blu-Ray) and than also get a working DVD out of the same project? If it works, it would be a nice time saver.

General workflow some users

1. Convert PP sequence to H24-Blu-ray to get an m4v file and a separate audio file;

2. Open Encore, choosing Bluray and bring in your HD menu;

4. Set your end point for your timeline;

5. Connect your timeline(s) to your menu;

6. Build your Blu-ray under "Build" pane choosing Blu-Ray for "Format" and "Output" as Blu-ray image;

Yes. But only from a project in PPro. You have to export your PP timeline firstly as a MPEG2-DVD (likely as a widescreen) and secondly as an H264-Blu-ray. Different menus would be required since the ratio of the menus would be different. As far as I know, this cannot be done directly from Encore.

Will Encore not transcode the menus on the fly? I am assuming this is what that option means for "Locate Transcoded File:DVD" No?

If the menu is SD widescreen, I do not believe Encore will transcode the menu to HD blu-ray. Bring the menu into Photoshop and put it in an HD (1920x1080, square pixels) because your PAR (Pixel Aspect Ratio) is different.

Encore was designed so you could switch from DVD to BD, but you had to start with an HD menu, and this often worked. The eventual opinion was that you should do two separate projects.

Yeah, I have a Blu-Ray menu set up. I can't get the disc to burn though. I've located each DVD transcode for my HD clips. But most of the clips won't import into a timeline when I take that step. I'm guessing this workflow just isn't stable enough to pursue. Such a shame. I sucks to have to create the disc separately each time if the goal is to have matching BD and DVD discs.

8. Then "Build" the image.

9. Once finished, load a BDR Blu-ray disc in your burner, open ImgBurn and open your Blu-ray image (iso) file.

10. Burn your disc.

The above is a general process many follow when burning Blu-rays. Basically, create an iso image to be burned in ImgBurn. Encore isn't the greatest at burngin Blu-rays. DVDs are generally burned using the same general procedure.

I might add that it might take a while to load your m4v and audio file into Encore. For example, I had an hour video, which when loading into Encore (via shortcut Windows key Ctrl-Sht-T and choosing the two files) took slightly over a minute.
