Create Project Without Importing Files

Explorer ,
May 26, 2022 May 26, 2022

Hi, I am a bit confused with the new import mode feature. How do I create a project without importing and clips/files? I just want to make a blank project the way it used to default to. I am using Adobe Premiere Pro 2022 on a Windows 10.

Thank you.

You dont need to import files.

Just name the project, set path and hit create.

As Ann said before, just like the old way set the path and project name in the top left part, hit Enter. Ignore the bigger dialogue box.

I teach a lot, and for my surprise, the students like that new project dialogue box! Really weird in my opinion, but it looks like Adobe understands new generation mindset better than me.

And as I've found out from programs by Karl Soule and others, it's actually a very good tool to add media to a project, especially complex or "spanned" clips.IInstead of using the MediaBrowser.

It sorts the folder locations and tracks all metadata very tightly, and you have the options to transcode and or copy/move as Prelude used to do also.

Yep! That import dialogue box has several advantages over the media browser.

Ok so NEW users like it. Great.
There is sort of a workaround. Great
BUT WHY is it necessary? Why not give the option to have it the old way? It really isnt trivial.

I mean, I got used to the new export window. Still don't like it, but I can figure it out instinctively.
I am convinced the Import tab/openprojectpage or whatver it's called is bad design. Proof is we're all here discussing and trying to explain how to use it.

What other software has you puzzled right from get go?
I'm not some old dinosaur. I'm relatively young and regularly enjoy learning all sorts of new software for music production, vjing etc.
This just slows me down... for no reason I can understand.

Not here to argue really. The point is i'm not a beginner. Many others agree. We are voicing our dissatisfaction.

What other software? How about ... Resolve? As someone who works with/for/teaches pro colorists, I'm in that app daily, as well as on the BM and LGG forums and the MixingLIght site all the time.

There's so many options in setting up both the app and projects, that people normally seem to get wrong ... and then set other things so that it sorta corrects the original mistake, but you ain't actually where you shoulda been. And there's ten times the options to sort out for people "over there". Ha.

They SHOULD have put the Create button either next to the Name/Location items, OR ... given us a quick tab to it. So I definitely agree it could use some mods.

Past that, the vast majority of the several million daily users adapted fairly easily and quickly. But any UI change will be "intuitive" for some, and totally unfathomable for others. Any change.

I've good friends who both love love love the look of the Resolve UI, and find it totally intuitive. Whatever floats your boat, you know?

I find it kinda ugly/banal, and why things are where they are doesn't make sense, and BlackMagic WON'T allow me to move things to where they might make sense, as that apps's "tools" are mostly locked down in one place for freaking ever.

Again, everyone's mileage always varies.

Oh ... the thing about the advanced capabilities of the new Import page ... I do feel kinda stoopid about not checking out the tools in the upper left corner. The move/rename/transcode options are nearly identically the same as Prelude used to have, which I used a lot

So I'm now using that some. Pretty handy actually, and compared to this one, the old project start dialog was pretty clueless and had almost no capabilities whatsofreaking ever.

It's just taken stoopid me a couple years to realize this on account of I never took the time to actually study the options. I just typed Name, set Location, clicked Create.

Live and learn ...

Adobe Premiere just keeps trying to import files even though I didn't ask it to. It's really annoying me, it's never done that before... I shut it down, restart it, select "NEW PROJECT" uncheck all the boxes and hit create and it starts to import batch files! WHY?!? Like, I literally selected NOTHING!

There's either something starred in the center section, or some option on the right side blue indicating selected, that us what's going on.

Make sure no center items are starred, no right items blue.

The Way Premiere works today at start is SO ANNOYING. It's the only software I use that FORCES me to create a project file to start it. I open premiere a lot of times during the day, just to check things on videos, test something I DON'T WANT to SAVE anything.
My only solution is to always save over the same untitled project, which is a dirt way to fix it.

Huh?

All video projects are ... projects. This isn't a video player.

And you don't have to create a project to launch it, just open a previous one.
