CS6 and CC Happy Together

Hello everyone

I have been finding conflicting information on the internet regarding having Premier Pro CS6 and Premier Pro CC on the same computer.

Some sites say I need to reinstall CS6 after downloading CC - some say I need to reinstall CS6 - others say just download CC and both versions will happily live on my system.

I am the original owner of CS6 and still have the discs it came on.

Currently running CS6 on a Mac using Mojave

Thanks for your guidance

That information is past tense.

No longer applicable. (Johns info is from 2016.... long gone).

Both versions will live happily together.

As they have for me for many years.

Not so long ago I installed everything on a new boot drive.

No issues what so every, and I do frequently install/de-install cloud apps.

Thanks for the reply Ann.

Just to confirm - you are on a Mac?

Thanks,

No windows, but that should not make a difference.

I have older apps like Encore installed on my MBP running Mojave, and there were no issues having them alongside CC version up 2020. CC should not remove older versions when installed -- but make sure you uncheck the "remove older versions" options when intalling a newer application.

I will add though that I just tested Encore and it asked for a serial nuber (I don't have one, it was an early CC download of it) so that's an issue; though if you indeed have a physical copy you should be fine.

Have to ask though: why are you still using CS6? What features of that older version do you still need?

Thanks for the reply John V Knowles.

As you can already see - the reply just prior to yours is somewhat contradictory to your response - which still leaves the question unanswered for me...

Fair question on why I continue to use CS6 - and basically it's because I haven't done a lot of video editing in the past and CS6 did what I needed...

I'm finding lately though... the more time I spend with editing - the more I want to explore other features - but not sure yet whether I could justify a monthly subscription since it's just for personal home use. This is why I would like to take the CC version for a spin - but would still like to leave the CS6 option open for myself at this time.

Thanks,

The non-subscription version of CS6 validates via Adobe Application Manager and the subscription version validates via Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop.  I had CS 5, 5.5, and 6 installed with CC for awhile due to needing to pass project files back and forth with clients running one of those versions and needing to maintain project compatibility.

However, you would need to be subscribed to a plan for the new version to use it along side the old version.  Unless you plan to cancel the subscription at some point, is there really a need  to have both?  Or are you considering the trial?

This is the information I have... YMMV and all the usual disclaimers

As soon as you install any part of the Cloud, even a trial, it replaces your program management system
-if you plan to keep using a serial number program you should NOT install a Cloud program, not even a trial
-Read Cloud takes over https://community.adobe.com/t5/Get-Started/Get-off-the-cloud/td-p/8075485 for some ideas

Thanks for the reply John T Smith.

This is definitely a concern for me - as I don't really want to give up my CS6 version yet and move to a subscription based format. The primary reason for wanting to stay with CS6 is that I don't do a lot of editing right now and not certain I can justify the additional cost based on the fact that I just use it for home/personal projects.

Thanks,
