Current bug with timeline indicator

I just recently updated my PP this morning, 6/20, and there seems to be a huge bug during playback! When I click play, the blue timeline indicator does NOT move at all, so I have no idea where I am on the timline. Only when I click stop, the blue indicator goes to its correct position.

This problem has never happened before this morning's update, and I already restarted my pc several times to try to resolve the issue. I'm still editing as much as I can, but this issue is making it very difficult.

In the video attached, every time I press play, I can hear audio and everything else seems fine, but the indicator doesn't move at all, and is only updated to the correct position once I press stop.

Hey Todd!!!

I did a combination of your suggestions and it worked! I'm actually editing with 3 monitors, and transmitting the main timeline preview to another small external monitor via a Blackmagic Decklink Mini Monitor 4K (mainly for color correcting and grading).  I think I unplugged all of the monitors and plugged them back in, along with resetting the workspace layout, clearing media cache, and disconnecting the Decklink to the monitor, and also restarted my PC too. I'm now able to get my o

I'm in the exact same situation.

Resetting the settings didn't help either.

I can't work when I have urgent work to do.

I'm paying a lot of money and they are taking away my opportunity to make money.

Hi Ann,

I just tried resetting preferences several times and that didn't help. I've been editing the same project for the past few days and all my settings have been the same, except for this morning's update.

Is it possible to revert to an older version of PP?

Always. Go to the CC Desktop app, and in the options, make sure "show older versions" is selected.

Then to the far end of any app's line on the main display, right-click the 'open' thing and you get a menu. Select the version you want to install.

Thank you so much for your suggestion! I tried to do that but it looks like things aren't going well for me right now.

When I pulled up the options, the checkmark was blue, where it says "remove older versions". If I'm reading that right, it means everytime I update, the older versions are no longer available to revert. I had no idea this was an option, so I wasn't able to choose an older version. I'll keep editing with a frozen timeline for as much as I can. Thank you again for the suggestion!!

Nope, wrong bit. That should be deselected by EVERYONE!

I think the General tab is the one where show older versions is available. And ALL users can access back up to a full version. So you can install 23.x or 24.x ... or, as I recommend, both,

PLUS I think many users should install and test the public beta and reply about any thoughts or issues on the public beta forum.

Hi @Hung5E08,

What OS are you using, what are the sequence settings, does this happen with any sequence, with any project? or is this more specific?  What are the media formats you are using?

Thanks!

Hey Todd,

Thank you for the response!

- I'm on Windows 11

- I posted details of my current timeline in a screenshot. It's the same settings for all my projects

- For this highlight project I'm working on, all sequences within the project have the frozen timeline indicator

- I opened a few others projects that I worked on a few weeks ago, and got mixed results. Some projects will only have smooth playback with current indicator on smaller sequences, under 5 mins and little videos on the timeline. Another project has extremely laggy timeline indicator, but not completely frozen like I'm currently experiencing. Overall, this issue seems to affect a majority of the stuff I'm working on.

- My media formats are almost all ProRes 422, with some ProRes Proxy and H264 files mixed in. H264 files that I don't convert tend to be smaller and straight from camera, so they're not problematic.

Thanks @Hung5E08, any chance you have the captions panel open, or is transcription running in the background?

I've seen 3 threads on this topic, so there must be something to it.

Not a problem! Thanks for getting back to me. The "Captions" and "Transcript" are technically loaded into one of my panels, since I'm using 3 screens, but they're inactive and not running at all. For good measure, I completely removed from from my panel and the problem still persists.

Just FYI, I'm using a desktop PC from work, and I have Adobe CC through their setup, so I can't make admin changes. That's usually not a problem but just wanted to bring that up. I'm also editing strictly from one PC since it's connected to all the SSD's and RAID's, and I don't have another computer to use. Right now, I'm continuing to editas best as I can with a frozen indicator, due to upcoming deadlines that must be met, but I'll keep checking this thread for any updates but thank you again!!

@Hung5E08 are you able to disconnect one of your monitors and see what happens when just running two of them?  Also, are you using transmit on one of those monitors? or a different external device?
