Question

Cutting from a stringout is creating new in and out points

Rookie question: but I am cutting from a stringout in my source monitor. When I cut from the monitor and insert the footage into my sequence, it also clips the footage in the original stringout. Is there a setting to adjust to keep the stringout as is while I cut?

Also, when you say 'cut' from the monitor...what exactly are you doing? You can Insert or Overwrite from the source monitor but you can't 'cut' in the traditional cut/copy/paste sense (unless you have opened the source monitor in the timeline as @ScottSimmons says.)

I'm with Paul on this one as it's hard to understand what is happening. If you indeed have a stringout in the Source monitor then it should remain untouched when edited into a sequence in the Program. It's worth noting that if you have opened the Source monitor timeline in the Timeline panel you can do destructive edits on that by trimming.

It sounds like you might be adding your stringout to the timeline as a nested sequence. To add the clips from the stringout instead, you’ll need to disable the Nest button in the Timeline. This button is located under the timecode, next to the Snap button. Once disabled, the clips from the stringout will be added as separate elements rather than as a nested sequence.

Thank you, Paul! Toggling the nest button doesn't seem to make a difference, unfortunately, in this instance.

I'm in a production, by the way!
