default export source range settings

When I export media, my default source range was always "sequence in/out" but for some reason it is now "work area." Of course I can change it before exporting but I often forget and export my whole timeline when I don't want to and then have to waste time re-exporting. How do I make it so the default is "sequence in/out" again?

Thanks.

You could go back to the Timeline panel, click on the hamburger/wing menu (in tab, to the right of Sequence name) and uncheck Work Area Bar. This will disable Work Area and Export should then default to Sequence In/Out.

TLDR;  Create a new sequence, cut and paste all clips into that.  ctrl+A on the timeline. then ctrl+V on the new empty timeline.  Then send to media encoder and "Entire Sequence" should now be default.

For anyone that has a sequence in a premiere pro project that does not set source range to "Entire Sequence" and rather it chooses something else like "Work Area".  My sequence was the problem.  It was stuck to export "Work Area" every time.   I tried everything and the solution was to drag the sequence to the 'new sequence' button duplicating the sequence settings essentially nesting the old sequence in a fresh sequence.  Then I cut and paste all the footage from the problematic export sequence to the new sequence.    Now when I export the :source range" is set to "entire sequence".    This bug seems to be related to a project that uses the "work area" bar and then sets the work area to 0 and 0, then turning off the work area bar does nothing and send to media encoder simply sends the first few seconds to export as the "work area" source range.

Setting an in and out should be the default output. A work area is just when you are working, can be helpful, I don't want to turn that off completely. That can change dynamically, nice. But when the user sets an in and out, they are telling the program what they want. Then when you go to render, the user is not in control, and asssumption is made that the work are is more importnat. Is the user in control?? Please Adobe, this is an issue. As others have said, it can cost re-rendering if you miss that it is set to work area.

And why are you still here? I think everyone posting on this forum is aware of the existance of other NLEs and they have enough reasons not to switch.

Please post something that's actually helpful. Maybe in the Blackmagic forum. I bet there are also unanswered questions, bugs and feature requests, you may have an answer to.

    Thanks.

Sorry for the necro here - has anyone else seen this behavior change as of Sept 2022?  I'm on 22.6.2 (Build 2) and it's defaulting to Entire Sequence (I have Work Area bar turned off, FYI) and I have to put it back to Sequence In/Out every time I send a clip to Media Encoder (I'm batch encoding).  Has anyone found a way to set a default other than Entire Sequence, or at least to have it default to what you last set it to?

I found that on that first screen that comes up when you go to export and before you choose send to Media encoder there is an option there to set it to sequence in/out and if doing that it does seem to remember it. 👍

Looks like this option is gone from the dropdown list in 22.0. Anyone know a new work around? I'm defaulting to Work Area when I export and it's driving me insane. Thanks1
