Thank you so much for this information, I am new to using premiere pro on a Macbook and I don't quite understand what you mean by the clips in the bin, do I put the clips in the bin or should they already be there? Am I missing something? All the clips I've imported are on the left of my screen but not in the bin. What should I do as I'm experiencing the same problem with the brightness when exporting. Thank you, any help appreciated!

"Bins" is a term used in NLE apps, for "folders". If you have made folders for putting say media in one, sequences another, however you organize your project assets, your clips (media) are in a bin.

If you haven't made any bins in the Project panel, then ... they're just in the main Project panel.

Either way, select the clips in the Project panel.

Neil

Make sure you have all the color management items set correctly. Color Workspace, Lumetri panel, Settings tab. Top to bottom, they ALL interact.

If on Mac especially, make sure Display Color Management is on, probaby extended dynamic range also. Auto detect log and auto tonemap should be on.

Whether you use a Rec.709 or HLG sequence, make sure the export preset matches your sequence CM ... ONLY use presets that match! For Rec.709, presets should not mention HLG or PQ in the preset name. For HLG seqeunces, they MUST mention HLG in the preset name!

Set display gamma to your choice, Mac only of Quicktime/1.96, or broadcast-correct 2.4 or web use (if you want) of 2.2.

Thank you for your advice. But my color changes in Premiere now do not apply to the clips anymore. How can I export those?

''... my color changes now do not apply to the clips anymore,. How can I export those?"

No clue what is happening.

Do you mean you don't see any changes within Premiere? Or do you, but you don't see them outside?

Two completely different issues. I need to know which you're dealing with.

And if it's "outside" Premiere, what's your system. what CM you have set in Premiere in detail, top to bottom ... and what you're viewing the clips both on and in ... hardware and software.

Can you please explain this very very simply. I have no idea what bins are or anything about premiere pro. I use the program to edit self tapes and all of the sudden everything i export out is insanely bright. Ive tried understanding what everything is I'm just far too confused. Most often I am recording off my Iphone and airdropping it on to my mac and then taking those files and editing on premiere pro. Please help as I need this for my work.

I've got MANY long posts explaining this on this forum. Easy to find if you go through my user 'history' here.

Basically .... your iPhone is set to encode HLG, a form of HDR, high dynamic range media.

You're working in a timeline that is Rec.709, which is SDR, standard dynamic range.

Or using an HDR export preset rather than an SDR export preset.

Go to the Lumetri panel, the tab NAMED SETTINGS.

Set display color management on, set auto detect log and auto tonemapping on. Use a Rec.709 sequence color space, and ONLY use export presets that do not have HLG or PQ  in the preset name.

That should get you going better.

Hi Niel,

Here two years later but with the same issue! However, there are no current override options. Any suggestions?

I have no idea what you mean about being no current override options in the 24.x series. With that whole color management options tab in Lumetri, the Settings tab, there are several settings that directly affect this.

Such as simply set the auto detect log to on, auto tonemapping to on, and voila, it maps HLG to either SDR/Rec.709 or HDR/HLG sequences.

And you can set the viewer gamma to display within Premiere either the correct image, or the lighter one that Macs without reference modes show. Select the 1.96/Quicktime viewer gamma, and you get the same image in Premiere as in Qt Player. Now do your corrections, and outside Premeire in QT player you'll like the image.

Of course, being as that is because Apple uses a wrong display transform on those screens, all Macs with reference modes, set to HDTV, and all other non-Mac screens, will see a pretty dark image.

Using SDR checkbox in Media Encoder helped in my case.

With every update, not just full releases, they are changing things some to a fair amount. This is now a usable option for this, which ... it wasn't only what, three months ago?

So thanks for pointing this out!
