[Moderator moved from The Lounge to Premiere Pro CC .]
I have a 28:30 show that needs to be closed captioned for broadcast. The station needs an MPEG2 with embedded CC, not a sidecar file. It still seems that Adobe can't handle this. Can anyone recommend any service that can do this? We may have to switch to a new system to complete this task.

We are running into the same problem with one of our broadcast stations and have tried several other options with no luck, Can anyone explain why adobe premiere can not embed captioning into an mpeg2 file when so many other NLEs can. They handle to 608/708 captions well and can embed them into mxf files but not mpeg2 files which is what a lot of people are wanting. thank you.

You can use the MPEG 2 codec in an MXF file. That's what XDCAM is.

Will this Create a .mpg file or a .mxf file?

I just tried what you said Jim_Simon and it creates a .MXF file and that will not work. I need to out put a .mpg file and nothing else will work for the station. Thank you for trying to help.

What if you changed mxf extension to mpg.

Well, I have tried to rename the file .mpg and the file was not excepted. I have tried everything that i know to get an MPeg-2 file with embedded 608 and 708. Everything I have tried has been rejected by the station.

If you are running a Mac you can use Compressor to put it into program stream for broadcast stations. I recently got a Windows desktop and I'm still looking for a program that will work with that. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/compressor/id424390742?mt=12

Did this work for you? It looks like compressor only works with final cut pro, not premiere.

This works for me. I export a uncompressed video from premiere and than load that video into compressor and it will wrap it. still a pain though that premiere can't!

@jhiles1 That's really encouraging that compressor worked for you. I keep getting an error message (something about a laguage error) when i try to export an mpeg2 and scc closed captions file. Could you tell me what steps you took to make this work?

Sorry,,, i'm trying to export an mpeg2 file with embedded cc using an mpg exported from Premiere Pro and an scc file.
Thanks for any help.

I use this with premiere and deliver to at least 10 different stations. I export as .H264 with a .scc sidecar file, then put them into compressor and use the mpeg 2 program stream setting.

april@MyBusinessPartner - that's what i've been trying to do but obviously i'm missing a step 🙂
I'm using Premiere Pro to edit with and then export out an mp4 and scc,,,, import them into compressor, click on Batch and am instantly greeted with an error message..... very frustrating.🤬🤬🤬

Robert, I know little about compressor, but it seems to me that the exact error message is critical. Screenshot if you don't have the exact language?
April, thanks for the input. What are the H.264 export settings? Some users with this workflow would export a lossless intermediate? Does compressor re-transcode?

Hey Michael,,,, i was finally able to get compressor to to cooperate but it'll only export an mp4 with CC. When i put the mp4 into my station's video server for airing, the file metadata said "No Captions Present".
You are correct,,, very frustrating.
