Good information. But what I like about Encore is the ability to make customized menus using Photoshop. I'm not sure of any other DVD authoring program gives such a wide range for designing menus.
For DVD, you can use your custom PSD in DVD-Lab Pro with no issues. Just import the PSD & go through the selection process. You may need to relearn how to do your buttons, but I can assure you it is a lot less hassle in DVD Lab Pro than Encore. Button visibility state is set in the menu editor, for each button, with no need for odd characters to describe the colours used - that is a straightforward process too. The beauty of it is that like Encore, it can be easy to use with the built-in Abstraction layer to help you but unlike Encore it will grow with you - as you learn how the DVD Structure works - and this is intrinsic to the way this authoring tool works - you cannot help but learn the structure as this is how you build projects. YOU decide what items go in what VTS (assuming the assets are all the same, of course as different asset stream types have to go into different VTS etc) but as you learn this you get given the tools to get around it in a way that Encore simply cannot do with it's habit of creating a new VTS for every timeline/sequence (not a playlist, which is something quite different in DVD) that gets added.
See here for a quick run-through https://mediachance.com/dvdlab/Helppro/vts.htm
This allows more authoring tricks to be pulled, and where Encore has it's clumsy Over-ride system DLP has custom scripting in VM commands, Hex commands - or even your own custom VM code, which it will even help you to write.
You get more scope for menus too - check this out:
