I'm hoping there's a solution to this that I'm missing?
So, I'm used to my in/out points in my sequence overriding my outpoint for my source. (I've been editing in Avid for years)...
So I was disturbed when I realized I got a dialogue every time my In's/Outs in my source window didn't match the duration in the timeline.
Then I found the preference in the Timeline settings that disable the "clip mismatch warning dialogue"... YAY!!!
... But then I started to learn about how fit-to-fill works in Premiere. It would seem that if I have that dialogue disabled there's no way to access fit to fill.
SO
I thought I'd work around it by setting a "clip speed/duration" shortcut and unlinking speed/duration in the dialogue, and then manually typing in the duration in my timeline... but when I do that it changes the speed of the entire master clip!!?? Oh. NO!!!
Please oh please someone please tell me there's a way to fit to fill a clip without changing the master clip... and without that annoying dialogue box popping up every time I've got an outpoint set in the source monitor.
Thanks!

Have you tried the "Set focus on timeline for overwrite/insert" ... option in Timeline preferences?

Hi, Neil,
Thanks for the reply.
Yes, and that works well in combination with un-clicking "fit clip dialogue opens for edit range mismatches"...until I want to "fit to fill" a clip. It seems that I can't access the "fit to fill" option then while editing, unless I go back to preferences and re-select it. I use fit to fill a lot, so that's not really an efficient/viable option for me.
With Avid, "fit to fill" dialogue was simply a keyboard command that I had set. In Premiere, I can program the keyboard to have the clip speed/duration dialogue pop-up... but that doesn't have "Fit to fill"... and even if I used that dialogue to fit to fill manually by unlinking duration and speed and entering the duration I want it to "fill", it ends up modifying the clip itself in the project (If the speed wound up at 125%, that clip is now 125% in my project window, and if I want to use that clip again, it's already set to 125%).
I'm trying to figure out if I can get the set the "fit to fill" dialogue to pop up only when I ask it to... not every time I have mismatched ins/outs set between the timeline and the source, because I'm used to constantly having mismatched ins/outs set and the timeline overriding it.
Does that make sense?

I understand moving from one software to another has it's issues. Couldn't this be solved by not creating 4 points (ie in and out on both source and program) unless you wanted a fit to fill? 3 points are quite sufficient and also less time consuming - unless I'm missing something.

Yes, I think that is what I'll have to do if there is no separate command for the dialogue box. It's just going to be a pretty big adjustment after editing this way for 18 years. I know this sort of thing is to be expected moving from one platform to another, but I guess I'm just looking to mitigate the pain wherever possible . Thanks for your time!
