Google Drive for desktop or local disk?

Hi.

My students want to be able to work from a computer at home as well as on the computer at school. Does working against Google Drive desktop work well or is it always better to work against a local hard drive? Is there a risk that editing will be slow when you have to constantly sync against a cloud? From what I understand, it's always best to store the files locally on the computer. So we've never tried anything else. We don't have the option to use Lucidlink, for example. Grateful for your advice!

Yes, Lucid Link would be OK. It's too bad you don't have the option.

100Mbps, IF going both ways, might work with 720x1280p media that's like ProRes , all intraframe, and if there's not too many track layers. They could "pin" clips to local storage for difficult files.

250Mbps gets you to 1080p, and 400Mpbs to UHD.
