Most video files usually have two components--the outer container (also known as a wrapper) and the codec (this defines the actual compression and ultimately the quality and size of your file). MP4 is container that can have H.264, H.265 and whole lot of other codecs inside of it. Sometimes, the combination of the container and codec can be read by a editing application as a corrupt file and can crash your system, not play video and other types negative things. By renaming the extension--this can eliminate part of the problem allow your video to be imported into your system. Unfortunately the codec can be more unstable in the course of editing and can cause other issues. If this is working for you--fantastic! I hope the long term stability of your workflow remains. Good luck!

Hi Gunnar petersen,

Is this happening with just with this footage or with all mp4 files? Have you tried to change the renderer in File > Project Settings > General > Renderer & check?

Thanks,

Vidya.

Set your camera to AVCHD instead of mp4.
