How can I stop Adobe software from scaling up? The UI is too magnified.

I don't want to scale up everything (ie. change Windows scaling globally, because it's a 15" laptop screen and it's 4K) like many people, I want to shrink everything to actual size when I'm using busy user interfaces like Adobe Premiere, otherwise I'm mostly wasting my 4K screen resolution!

  • I've tried the .manifest file with registry hack.
  • I've tried changing the Compatibility option in the shortcut and on the .exe itself.

Has something changed in the latest version of Windows/ Premiere?

Thanks for any ideas!

My recommendation is to leave Windows Scaling at 100% and use nothing less than a 32" monitor at UHD resolutions.

As I said, I'm on a laptop.

I have a laptop because I need a mobile computer. Otherwise I would get a cheaper and more powerful desktop.

That kind of resolution on a Laptop screen is just a waste.  Get a different Laptop.

I appreciate your eyesight may not be keen enough for a 4K screen on 15" laptop but I can instantly tell the difference between it and a 1080p screen. I bought the 4K option because it's glorious + ultra portable for my editing work in the field.

Telling me to get a different laptop isn't helping; the problem is with Premiere not giving users any control over scaling.

It's an extremely busy UI (and I'm happy with that) but forcing it to scale up loads, without any option to override it is horrendous.

That's true.  Actually getting one is all that will help here.

Kid, I've been working in the industry longer than you. I've been using Premiere longer than you. I never criticised you for how you like to use your kit, because it's dumb and pointless, but you had to be that guy to me for some reason.

There are a lot of us who want to control how the user interface of Premiere scales. That's fine if you don't. Go and hang out with your friends instead.

I don't need the buttons so big, because I'd prefer to have more space available for clips in the timeline, items in lists and bigger monitor.

I have a desktop computer but sometimes need to edit things out in the field and be very mobile, as I tried to explain to you before you started being an arrogant kid.

There is absolutely no way a lower resolution screen on my laptop would help me with this, and a bigger screen would not be portable enough for me. I know what I want and it's not the same thing you want, which is fine. If Premiere had the option to change scaling we can both be happy.

Under the circumstances, in all, a relatively rational post.

We all need different setups at times, including working in the field without the possibility of additional monitors.. Let alone, having different pixel pitch and size monitors when we have mulitple monitors attached to a desktop. Like I do.

Premiere's monitor 'read' capabilities are positively ancient. We should be able to select a monitor by name, not ... by pixel location of the OS set system ...  as in "-0 -1920" meaning the top left pixel of a left-side additional monitor.

It's pretty pitiable in all.

Have you found any workaround for this problem?

Still no option to change the scaling factor for Adobe software in 2025...
