How do I break up a single sequence project in progress into several sequences?

I have not previously separated a project into several sequences.  After starting a large project with a single sequence, I would like to break it up into several manageable sequences.  The original clips in the project have been significantly edited, including transition, stabilize, and mocha remove Effects, between clips, with more work needed.  This also includes transcoding to use AVCHD with mocha Pro 4.  Tutorials show sequences developed from original clips.

To avoid wasting time in a trial and error exercise, how should I break the current project into sequences if possible?

There are several ways to do it, one way:

Select the current sequence in the Program Panel and then Duplicate it (menu Edit > Duplicate) the number of instances you want to break it in to. In other words, if you have one sequence now and you want to make it into 5 separate sequences, then Duplicate it 5 times.

(Leave the original sequence alone as it will serve as protection against something going wrong in this process or later in editing and you want to return to the original edit.)

Then in each of the duplicates, use Ripple delete to remove all the content except the section you want to retain for each of the sequences.  Name the sequences appropriately, and save the project.

I can Select All in the timeline but for some reason, I cannot Duplicate because it is not highlighted in the Edit list.

Would this be because the main video is MTS while a short added clip is TIFF?

Sorry, my fault, I meant to say " Select the sequence in the PROJECT panel"
