How to add mp4 extention code to premier.

I installed Adobe Premier Pro and tried to open an mp4 file. But all the folder my mp4 video collections are saved appears empty. My premier pro supports only prel, prproj, xml. How come? Most YouTube videos I have seen demostrating how to use Adobe Premier, use mp4 format in their Premier pro software. Is there anyway to add mp4 extention to my Adobe Premier Pro. I would always prefer to use mp4 file format on my computer. If not is there a soft that would convert the mp4 format to the prel, prproj, xml formats.

Might need to learn the basics first or get more simpler software to edit with.

Reinstall the software.

Use the media Browser to import the files.

You don't open an mp4 with Premiere Pro.

You open Premiere Pro and then import the mp4 into your project.
