Welcome to the forum.
Upon Import of any file with Audio, PrPro needs to Conform that Audio, creating a CFA and PEK file. The former is the Conformed Audio, and the latter the Waveform Display file. That should ONLY happen once, and upon Import.
For more info, see this article: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3892177#3892177
Good luck,
Hunt

You MUST wait for conforming to finish to be able to use the program

Short answer: You can't disable conforming.

I forgot to mention, but the system involved works with a Matrox AXIO LE. It seems that the driver does not support this card for Premiere CS6.
I say this because on other workstation with Matrox MXO2 LE you can get a preview of the video and audio during the same conformation clip.
The device should interfere in this matter.
Thanks to all

Conforming is an integral part of the process that we use to import footage. Yes, you can sometimes get a preview of video and audio before conforming is done, but it has to be done and it's best to wait until the process is complete anyway. This is the process by which we can work with multiple types of footage without transcoding. If it were shut off, the program would simply not work.
With the Matrox device, if you are having difficulties, the best place for support is with Matrox directly. They have the most knowledge of their devices and how to get them working properly with all major editing suites.

I have been stuck with one file "conforming 00064.MTS" for many, many hours (overnight, well into the next day). If I try to "render effects". it locks up ("Adobe not responding"). If I try to generate a DVD it locks up. Now what?
I tried switching to a different computer and it also crashes when generating a DVD.
14 months of editing is now completed. What can I do to save this project?

Well, since nobody responded, here is the solution - In cases where a file clip may be damaged and Premiere Pro hangs on the "conforming" function, a solution is to load the clip into Edius and then export the file back out again. "Edit Anything" Edius successfully repairs the file and solves the problem, even for Premiere Pro CS6.

timtro,
I found a solution that should work. If you want to shorten this process much faster, just remove the audio channels from the clips. Here's how you can do it in premiere.
1. Highlight the clips you want and right click to modify—audio channels.
2. Uncheck off both/all channels of audio (left and right is what I deal with).
I had a project with a bunch of prores 422 files that show audio but had nothing recorded to them. I just removed all the audio and the conforming process stopped immediately.
Good luck.

When this has happened to me in the past, i duplicated the clip in the file system with a new name, then import that clip.

Greg,
Is it true that you can uncheck the audio channels and Premiere will stop conforming them? It worked once for me, but I'm not sure if it was just "lucky timing" or what. Obviously you'd be without audio, but for BRoll I don't need it...

Crazy...
i'm working (in Belgium-Brussels) in a project with tons of offline clips (3000). Lacie discs with rushes is on his way from US.
Awaiting the discs, I will organise this project.
Why, should I wait for conforming Offline files ?
