How to display the last frame in the program window?

When I edit in Premiere and have inserted a new clip at the end of the timeline, or when I play back the timeline until its end, Premiere will show a black frame in the program window.

From FinalCut I'm used that the software displays (repeats) the last picture frame automatically. How can I make Premiere show the last frame (the out-point of the clip, the last frame of the sequence) without going back one frame manually?

    You can't. It's the way PrPro is designed to run, so you see that you've finished the media. And seen all of it.

    Premiere Pro displays the frame the playhead is stopped on.

    If you want to see the last frame of a clip on the timeline, you must stop or move it there.

    If you zoom in far on the timeline, you'll see a "tail" on the Playhead:

    that "tail" shows you the frame the playhead is displaying (and the frame the next edit action will be applied to).

    Premier presumes that the last frame of the clip is something you want to keep (otherwise, why would you have put it there?), therefore it sets the Playhead to the next frame that follows it. If the playhead was displaying the last frame of the clip, the next edit would cut that frame off.

    Conversely, when you move the playhead manually or with a keyboard short cut to the previous edit point, it rests the playhead on the first frame of that edit - as that is where the edit occurred, and that frame will be impacted by whatever edit decision you make.

    Thank you very much for your answers. I understand the logic behind Premiere's behaviour. However, it would be helpful to see the last frame that I edited to easier choose the next matching edit (without cutting away the last frame, because it's certainly correct what Meg The Dog wrote).

    So it's not possible. Thank you again!

    Totally understood. I know when it plays through I'll need to often hit the k-j keys together to send it back one frame to get that last frame in view ... but then also need to reverse that before dropping other media down.
