How to do this slide reveal text in premiere

Community Beginner ,

Hey y'all.

I recently made this slide reveal text in premiere, but the way I did it was far too complicated, nesting each different text to a different copy of the background video, and just slide revealing each nest to reveal the nest below. Makes it so you really can't move the text in the timeline once you've nested everything.

Does anyone have an easier way to do this, preferably in premiere?

Best,
niko

You can do that rather more simply in the Essential Graphics process/panel, using keyframed items to mask the text as you reveal it. No nesting needed, and of course, you can always mod the keyframing work.

Like Neil said, you can do this without nesting.

In each clip, create a mask on top of the footage and set it to subtract, effectively having the mask cover the entire line/image. Next, create a simple key frame animation from fully covered (keyframe 1) to uncovered (keyframe 2).

Hope this helps.

Finally figured out how to do it. Is it simplier? Well, kind of, at least it's not nested to the background image.

The only inverse mask option, which makes this possible in premiere, is through an opacity mask, which can only do linear key frames, so in order to get a dynamic motion to it, you have to nest everything at the end and then apply speed ramping.

I also had 7 layers of text, so it was a lot of lining up of key frames, but it did work out in the end. Thank you for your help!

Only linear key frames? Are you sure? Have tried right-clicking the keyframes? Usually you can choose different options there.

Surprising, I did not realize that.

However, in the end, a Bezier keyframe can be mimicked with a series of successive linear keyframes. Much like you can draw a perfect curve with a bezier, but approach the same curve by placing multiple linear keyframes aling the path...

I get what you're saying. Here's the speed ramping I ended up using.
