How to load preferences file?

New Here ,
Mar 16, 2018 Mar 16, 2018

So for some reason my computer reset my preferences on all my programs, and now i'm trying to restore them.

I looked up on adobe's site where the folder with all my preferences are so i know where it is, but because as always Adobe half-a*ses their guides i don't know what to actually DO with it. So how do i implement those preferences back into Premiere?

You probably already know that your preferences are stored here:

  • In Windows, C:\Users\UserName\Documents\Adobe\Premiere Pro\12.0
  • In Mac, Documents > Adobe > Premiere Pro > 12.0

When Premiere Pro launches, it reads these files to know what settings to load. If anything is missing (like the Layouts folder is empty or deleted), it'll write the default settings in its place. If you didn't back up these files elsewhere, I don't know how you'd be able to restore the settings you lost when your computer

If you didn't back up these files elsewhere, I don't know how you'd be able to restore the settings you lost when your computer reset everything.

Preference settings are defined here: Configure preference settings in Premiere Pro

As I understand it, Premiere Pro can only restore things to their defaults unless you first replace the setting files with your backups and then launch Premiere Pro.
