How to make preset out of Wipe Transition Effet

Community Beginner ,
Aug 14, 2023 Aug 14, 2023

Hello! Two questions (they're related)

1st -Does anyone know how to turn a "wipe" transition into a preset?
I specifically use it to show before and afters of photographs on Instagram reels, and would love to save the settings I typically set it to for future use. For example, I change the line color to white and the thickness to "3".
2nd - I would like to create a preset for text on the screen to stay in the exact same spot every time, showcasing the camera settings + a gap in between the top and bottom text to include the before/after photographs.

All of this will be posted as an Instagram Reel, so the preset will allow me to stay within the safe borders of the app's HUD. I outline the area I'm talking about for visual reference. Hopefully, this makes sense!

Thanks in advance!!

Hi  - You can now save transitions as presets - but it still seems that the simple wipe is still excluded from this? It does really slow me down - but building a Mogrt seems like a long work around - but probably worth it at least for my use case, unless there's a way of saving wipes as a preset that I've missed?

You cannot save a real transition as a preset. You can save transitions made out of effects as a preset.

You can however use Linear wipe effect or Gradient wipe effect and save it as a preset.

Thanks Ann, that's really useful.

The wipe I need to use all the time has a specific size border. Maybe there's a way to add that to the Linear wipe effect then have me a lovely preset?

The video effect named Gradient Wipe is not removed while the transition named Gradient Wipe is removed. So you still have the video effect Gradient Wipe Ann wrote about earlier. 🙂

Ah - great - thanks. If I can figure out the border thing I'll be a happy man.

Do you want to create custom "safe margins" for your project, as highlighted by the red dotted box in the screenshot? If so, you can use the rectangle tool to draw the margin, right-click on it, and save it as a motion graphics template. You can then use this template on all of your projects.
