How to switch audio in multi camera source sequence?

I have two camera angles, one long (Cam 2) and one close up (Cam 1). When I've created a new sequence from the multi-camera sequence,  sometimes when I have selected Cam 2 I want to use its audio and sometimes I want to use the audio from Cam 1.

I can't seem to figure what settings in "Create Multi-Camera Source Sequence" will allow me to that.

I can try that. I am trying to be as efficient in this process as possible. This is a weekly task and I want to be as smart about it as possible.

My workflow would be to cut the video in real time, no stops.  Go back through a second time for tweaking the cuts.

Then go through and cut the audio as needed.

It will take time, but I think that's the most efficient method.

you've almost piqued my interest to come up with scenario to test using cs6 mulitcam.

Script: THE NEWLYWEDS

SC 1 INT/DAY (MORNING)

Medium tight single

               ROD

"Good morning, have you made breakfast ?"

CUT TO:

SC 1B INT/DAY (MORNING)

Medium tight single

               ROD IN BLONDE WIG

(falsetto) " No,  I thought YOU were going to make breakfast !"

CUT TO:

SC 1C INT/DAY (MORNING)

Medium tight single

               ROD

"That's YOUR job ! That's why we GOT MARRIED ! ( INSERT ) So you could make me breakfast ! "

INSERT : we see ROD IN BLONDE WIG RAISE EYEBROWS AND MAKE MOUTH A LETTER "O " ...

I have 2 cameras and can shoot this and use multicam and do the cut where the 'sound' carries on during the reaction shot ( insert of raised eyebrows and letter O mouth ).

and see if it works.

hmmmm…

maybe do the multicam thing and then make another audio level …  below your multicam one... and unlink and drag down the audio from the shot you want.. and THEN drag it out or shrink it down to the time you want … ???  When done disable the audio 1 from multicam and use audio 2 ???  Beats me.

hehe.. good luck !

an example:

watch episodic TV shot with digital film cameras. Or a movie ( projection that got converted to TV stuff ).  There are times when a camera rolls just to get 'reaction shot' of 2 people talking... we hear person 1 ( on camera) talking to person 2...and while that sound continues ( person 1 talking) we get quick cut to person 2 facial expression ( reaction) to what person 1 is saying...

Those are J and L cuts. The camera rolls purposefully to GET those reaction shots etc, and sometimes they are done as pickup shots ( to save time ).  It's hard to explain.

You can't DO that with multicam cause it was never intended to be a live event to begin with … and the story being told is NOT a live event being broadcast live.

I'm an idiot so take what I say with a grain of salt.

me neither. sorry. I hate multicam and I only used in ONCE in a tutorial for CS4. There was latency ( delay) so that when I wanted something to happen (switch to other camera) on an exact frame, it was delayed a few frames … which drove me nuts.

If I was stuck on a live venue with lots of cameras, like a live event being broadcast live, I'd be directing via many monitors and video switcher and all that stuff, and I would have NO CHOICE but to do what muliticam is simulating. To me that's just stupid.

hehe... but it's a lot more time and work to scrub through stuff and make choices and make J and L cuts, etc. Most people don't want to deal with it and are not that concerned. Whatever.  Maybe do your multicam to get general feeling for what is happening and where you want to cut... and then make another project using vid and audio levels... and use the mulitcam as a guide, while editing a final with J and L cuts ??  I don't know. I just don't use multicam.

You're looking for Audio Follows Video.

That doesn't do the trick because sometimes I don't want the audio to follow video. Sometimes I want to use the audio from the other camera.

In the multi-camera source sequence dialog (settings) screen, I chose "all cameras" in the audio section.

Then when I create the master sequence, I have all the audio tracks for both cameras. Is there a way to mute a portion of an audio track as necessary? My workaround has been to use the razor tool to mark the portion of audio I don't want and then delete it.
