Insert and overwrite don't work for first edit into a new sequence from the source monitor

version 25.1 on Mac. OS 14.7.1

starting a new sequence. I load the source into the source monitor, select in and out points then try to either insert or overwrite. nothing. The only way currently to start the sequence in this new version is to drag from the source monitor into the timeline.

From the image above, you won't have any source patching because you don't actually have an open timeline. The timeline panel is open, but there is no actual timeline/sequence open in the panel, so there are no destination tracks to patch a source to. You can always create a new sequence in the bin, double-click that to open it in the timeline panel, and then your source patching will appear.

If I understand correctly you want to create a new sequence by using insert or overwrite without dragging but by using the buttons or kbsc?

If so..

You cannot insert or overwrite into the timeline if there is no sequence to put them in.

that was not actually true. I did it all the time in previous versions up until 25.1 That's how I created new sequences... but I had source patching available. Now it's gone until I create a new sequence.

I very much doubt that, checked in 2023 and 24

No sequence in the timeline, no insert or overwrite or source patching.

It sounds like your issue might be related to Source Patching. If the source patching isn't enabled, you won't be able to insert or overwrite clips into your sequence from the Source Monitor.

To fix this, ensure that the source patching is enabled for the video and audio tracks you want to edit. You can find the source patching buttons on the left side of the timeline panel, just beside the track headers.

yes. the source patching disappeared once I updated to 25.1. It does not show any track assignments until I actually drag a source into the timeline... and I cannot figure out for the life of me how to turn this back on.
