Is there a Search and Replace Feature for Open and Closed Captions in Premiere Pro?

Hello all,

This post concerns subs and captions.

Is there some kind of "Search and Replace" feature for subs? For example, I want to search for all the subs that contain the @ symbol, and then replace it with another one.

Thank you very much in advance,

Anna Marava

Are you talking about captions/subtitles made with the Caption Tool? In either case, I think the answer is no. But you can use a third party tool to do this for captions, whether imported when the text has been created outside PR or exported from captions created or edited in PR.

I would use the free Subtitle Edit, which has under the menu item "Edit" a simple "replace" and also a "multiple replace" that will do multiple replaces at once.

Hello Stan,

Yes, I'm taking about the Caption workplace of Premiere Pro.

Thank you for your suggestion. We're interested in doing this within Premiere Pro since there is currently no sub format to import that does not mess with the subtitle specs we need to maintain.

Thank you very much for your reply Stan! Always appreciated.

If you are importing, and the characters to replace are in the original, you might made the search/replace before import?

I mark subs with the @ characters to indicate that the should be raised.

I import them into Premiere Pro to search the @ and raise the subs. After that, I need to massively delete the @ characters.

That's pretty much how I tried to solve the problem of incompatible sub formats 🙂
