is there a way to push all clips to the lowest possible track like tetris?

im curious to know if there is any one click way to get all the clips to drop to the lowest possible track they can be on

a little bit like  how a game of tetris works,  just so that everything can be compressed down to the minimum number of possible tracks.  if there is already a clip below it, then the clip would not move, but if theres nothing below it , the clip can drop down to that track.

this would be a nice option to tidy up your project

if i move each clip manually there is a risk that i might accidentally move it horizontally by a few frames, it is also a lot of clicking

No.

To drop straight I think it's holding down the Ctrl key while dragging.

You can always select clips on any track and move them up or down with alt option in mac + up or down arrow (one at a time o several if you shift select them all )

Begin with your top-most track, and use the Track Select Forward tool (with Shift pressed) to select all the clips only on that track. Then use the Alt+Down shortcut to move them to the lower tracks.  Then repeat until you have just one track.  Even with several tracks, this process should take around 10 seconds.

The method that the previous posters have mentioned is my preferred way as well. If you want an automated solution, Digital Rebellion offers a software suite called "Pro Media Tools" which contains a program called "Timeline Tricks." This tools will import your timeline and automate the process for a price ($99). https://www.digitalrebellion.com/promedia/
