Lift, Gamma, Gain Vs Shadow, Midtone, Highlight in Lumetry Color

Hi all, sorry for beginner question. I have difficulties thinking about this thing. I saw some app using "lift, gamma, gain", but lumetri using "shadow, midtone, highlight". Is it different or same?

The Color Wheels tab controls are exactly lift/gamma/gain.

Basic tab controls are somewhat different ... I've got a bit on my blog explaining their effects.

Lumetri-basic-tab-what-do-the-tonal-controls-really-do?

There are several other articles there with demonstrations of other controls and basic neutralization, shotmatching, that sort of thing.

Also, my Adobe MAX 2021 class, Session 565 "Thinking Like a Colorist in Premiere Pro" is a bit under half an hour and might be of help. Plus it has links to all sorts of additional papers and test media and such.

And never, ever worry about "a beginner question". I'm pretty advanced in color in Premiere, not bad in Resolve, but nowhere near most of my many colorist friends. So in Premiere, I'm advanced, in Resolve ... not a noob, but definitely not advanced. The only way to learn is to ask, right? So I ask like crazy.

And right now, I'm asking a ton of Audition/audio questions from a number of people I know to up my game there.

Compared to all of them, I'm a total noob. But with asking enough questions, I won't be one in very long, right?  😉

Neil
