managing the Media cache folder and Scratch Disks : same folder for all projects ?

Hi,

I'm sorry if this question looks silly but I'm new to Premiere, I come from Avid where you never have to worry about this kind of thing (plus I'm bad at technique).

Following a previous question about Media cache and Scratch Disks location, I set their location on a different external SSD than the Media.

Now I'd like to know if it's OK to use this same location and same folders for all Projects. (I would have different external SSD for media depending of the project but always a same other external SSD for Media Cache and Previews, regardless of the Project).

Thank you for your help !

Hi there, it is OK to use the same cache and preview location for all projects. Premiere will regenerate the cache in the default location if you open your project without the cache SSD mounted. As for previews, you will need to render the previews again into the new folder but it should not affect your edits.

Do make it a habit to clear the cache and previews once your project ends. Consider these option:cache.png

Thank you, perfect !

I"ll keep the same location for the Media cache folder and Database, as for the Preview files, on a small dedicated SSD.

I put all cache and preview files for several apps on an Nvme SSD drive, and that works well. Depending on the sustained speed of read/write to the drive, one at times can work with all else within the project folder.

Although if that starts slowing down, having the project files, media, and exports to different drives can help.
